ranking recent face and eye masks

These days, face and eye masks are an essential part of my skin care routine. They leave my skin feeling pampered and pretty...but they also remind me to focus on self care at the end of a long hard day. The latter is especially important! Several masks have been sitting in my beauty room lately and I have dutifully been working to put them to use. Some are under eye masks, some are face masks and some even have animal inspired designs. Ready to dive into some of the loves, leaves, and so-so products? Here is a ranking of some of the recent face and eye masks that I have been using.

The Loves: There were several standout masks. Thankfully, there were more loves than anything else. That is always a good sign. First up...the Pretty Animalz masks from Masque Bar. Obsessed! I love anything with a theme and the fact that these masks have adorable animal inspired designs and benefit the skin is incredible. I tried the Cat Hydrogel eye mask, the Polar Bear Nourishing sheet mask, and the Penguin Purifying sheet mask. Each one features a fabulous animal design and also works well. The masks feel really pampering and nourishing. I didn't experience redness or a reaction after use and my skin felt so soft and smooth. The Pretty Animalz masks a great way to have fun and still give your skin a little TLC.

Other loves include the two Life Brand masks. The first is an Oil Removing Mud Face Mask. As much as I love the ease of use that a single-use sheet mask provides...there is something about a mud mask. I love that this particular mask made my skin feel refreshed and rejuvenated. It did a wonderful job of tackling oily areas (like my nose for instance) and left my skin feeling so much better. The other Life Brand mask was the Anti-Aging Sheet Mask with Caviar and Pearl Powder. Though anything with anti-aging claims is hard to determine (a single-use product can't really speak to long-term improvements), the mask itself made my skin look much brighter and more radiant afterwards.

The Leaves: Unfortunately, there was one mask that was not my favourite: The Oh K! Bubble Sheet Mask. I've tried a few products from Oh K! in the past and it was exciting to know that there would be something new to try from the brand. However, while the bubbling sheet mask was unique and interesting to use...it left my skin feeling a little irritated. It wasn't a full-blown reaction but there was something in this that did not work for me. I don't normally have reactions to face masks but there must have been something in this particular one that my skin was not fond of. So, be sure to read the ingredients list if you have any concerns about potential reactions or skin irritations.

The So-So Products: There were also a few products that were only okay. Not out of this world amazing and not utterly disappointing but just so-so. The Masque Bar Charcoal Hydro Eye, Pure Gold Hydro Eye, and Aqua Hydro Eye were all easy to use, comfortable, and comforting. But my skin didn't look or feel any better after using them. So while the process itself was pampering...the results weren't noticeable. Would I try these again? Sure. But it would be more for the feeling of being pampered and unwinding than for noteworthy skin care results.

So, there you have it! There were lots of hits, one miss, and a few middle of the road items. All in all, not bad. It has been a lot of fun to test and try out different face masks to find out what works best for me.

Have you tried any of these masks? What face and eye masks are your favourites?

  2. It's a shame you didn't like all of the masks but nice you got to try so many different ones! I do love a sheet mask but I end up using a clay mask almost weekly - need to try make more time for it and treat myself to one of the sheet masks I have instead! :)

Hope you are having a good weekend :)
