visiting santa's village theme park.

There is nothing better than a Christmas inspired theme park for the holiday obsessed. For many years, I have wanted to re-visit Santa's Village, a theme park that I visited once as a child. During the recent cottage getaway, my husband, brother, and I drove the extra hour and a half out to the Christmas wonderland. Here are some of the highlights of that experience.

cottage thrift store haul (music, movies, books, and more)

It is no secret that thrift stores and antique stores make me happy. You never know what treasure you might find there! During a recent cottage vacation with some family members, there were several such stores visited in Fenelon Falls, Bobcaygeon, and Lindsay. I was lucky enough to find some wonderful items to add to my always growing collection of movies, books, and music.

love the earth as you would love yourself.

The month of July has been a busy one, especially with a cottage vacation thrown into the mix. This is something that my immediate family has done each summer since the COVID-19 pandemic, but the experience was a little bit different this year. My sister and her family did not come, there was a rented condo unit instead of a traditional cottage house, and there were certain health issues to navigate. I've mentioned in previous posts that one of my loved ones has been dealing with serious health issues for the last year and a half. It has made life uncertain. Unfortunately, this family member was admitted to the hospital a few days before the scheduled vacation and remained there several days after the vacation started. My brother, my husband, and I were at the cottage (or condo) for a few days before the remaining family members were able to make it there.

a day at the lake restores the soul.

It is time for a mini blog break here on the creation of beauty is art. Several members of my family enjoy spending time at a rented cottage each summer (a tradition that started during the COVID-19 pandemic when most of the world was shut down) which means that I am begrudgingly being dragged along. Though I do not like being away from the comfort of my home and do not particularly enjoy all of the mosquitos, there are usually lots of antique and thrift stores to explore. And this year, my husband and I are planning to take a daytrip to a small theme park that isn't too far away. Since I will be occupied for the next week, there will be a mini break, but new posts will be shared on the creation of beauty is art. as soon as I return. Until then!

Do you have any travel plans this summer? Are you someone who enjoys spending lots of time in nature?

niagara falls comic con review and experience

Several months back, there was an ad on my Instagram account for Niagara Falls Comic Con. This is not an event that I have ever attended (though I have been to Fan Expo in Toronto in the past) but plans were made when I saw that Jodie Sweetin from Full House was scheduled to attend. It was certainly a memorable experience overall. Keep reading to find out more...

more vacation highlights: souvenirs from atlantis bahamas

It is near impossible to return home from a vacation without at least a few souvenirs. My husband and I recently took a trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas (check out that vacation highlights post here if you missed it) and picked up a few themed items. Some were purchased out of necessity and others were fun treats. On that note, here are the souvenirs that I chose to take back.

vacation highlights: visiting atlantis bahamas

Sunshine and sand are ideal for many travellers. Not me. I have done my best to avoid beach vacations over the years, as my preference is a theme park or more of a novelty experience. I was able to steer clear of a "sunshine and sand vacation" for a long time by simply making it clear that I was only willing to visit the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. My fascination with Atlantis dates back to 2001, when the Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie, Holiday in the Sun, was released. It was a fantastic direct-to-video movie that was set primarily at the Atlantis resort. It seemed like the most incredible place to visit. Even without an interest in beaches and waterparks, my interest in Mary-Kate and Ashley won out. So, when my husband declared that he needed a winter getaway, it quickly became apparent that Atlantis was in the cards. Here are a few highlights...

random birthday things (makeup, music, and travel)

There is something special about birthdays. Though some people prefer not to celebrate them fully...my birthday has always been a day that I love. The way that I celebrate has shifted and changed over the years (moving from themed parties as a child to dinners with friends as a young adult to laid back celebrations with family in more recent years) but my love of birthdays still remains. This year, the plan is to sleep in, watch The Stand miniseries, and then have dinner with my immediate family. Laid back, but fun. My birthday is today, but there have been a few pre-birthday celebrations related to makeup, music, and travel.

travelling tends to magnify all human emotions.

It is time for a little end of the summer break. Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, my family has booked a cottage at the end of the season for a week or so. It is not usually in the same place but in the same general area. Going to the cottage is not my favourite thing to do (I like being on my computer, watching Netflix, and being in the comfort of my home...and I dislike bugs, nature, and the unfamiliar) but given the events of this year so far, it might be nice to spend some dedicated time with my family. Here is hoping the week will be a positive one with lots of fun memories. This post is just to let you all know that the creation of beauty is art. will be on pause this week while I am away, but there will be new posts next week as usual.

What do you have planned for this week? Will you do any end of summer travelling?

life lately: pop 2000s tour and ottawa getaway

Life has been busy lately. Busy, but fun. Most of the time, my preference is for life to be slow and steady....quiet and calm. However, it has been nice to mix things up a bit in recent weeks. (Though the idea of slow, steady, quiet, and calm sounds appealing again, as there is a need to recharge after so much social activity.) In a short span, I've been able to see a movie with a friend, spend a few hours shopping with my parents, go to a concert, and visit Ottawa for a couple of days. With so much happening in the last little while, it seemed appropriate to share a few of those highlights in this life lately post.

walt disney world week: souvenirs

There are all sorts of stores in Walt Disney World. In fact, everywhere you turn, there seems to be someone selling something. Popcorn, Mickey shaped pretzels, drinks, t-shirts, pins, and all sorts of other odds and ends. It was hard not to pull my wallet out at every opportunity. Though I did my best not to overindulge, there were a few items that came home with me from my vacation. It was mostly clothes, but there were some other fun souvenirs that were included as well. Take a look....

walt disney world week: vacation highlights

Coming home from vacation is never fun...but my transition back into regular life following my Walt Disney World trip has not been smooth. Shortly after arriving home, there was a slight tickle in my throat. I didn't feel quite right. Before I even had time to unpack my suitcase, some sort of sickness had taken over. Cough, runny nose, exhaustion, and all the rest. It came on very quickly and is still lingering to this day. Definitely not the return home that I envisioned. Despite this setback, I am attempting to slowly get myself back on track: catching up on cleaning, laundry, blogging, work, and everything in between. Which brings me to the latest theme week here on the creation of beauty is art. To start this Walt Disney World theme week off on the right foot, it is time to share some vacation highlights from my recent getaway to the most magical place on earth.

chase your dreams but know the road that will lead you home.

So much goes into a vacation. There is all of the planning, preparing, and packing beforehand. Then once you get home, there is laundry, work, and an endless to-do list of everything that has been neglected in your absence. Now that the fairy dust has settled and I am back home again, it is time for me to tackle that aforementioned to-do list. I look forward to sharing Walt Disney World themed posts here on the creation of beauty is art. next week. (Expect to see some vacation photos, some of the souvenirs that came home with me, and even a post about the makeup that I took with me on vacation.) In the meantime, there will be some beauty related posts shared and I will do my best to catch up on comments and all the rest. I hope you have all been well this last week. Feel free to share some of your recent highlights in the comment section below.

What are you looking forward to this week? Do you have any vacations planned?

when you wish upon a star...

Laughter is timeless. Imagination has no age. Dreams are forever. By the time this post is live, my husband and I should be enjoying sunshine and Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream bars in Walt Disney World. This summer, we will be celebrating our ten year wedding anniversary. We have long planned to return to Walt Disney World for this milestone as a way to remember our honeymoon there...but also because I am a Disney fanatic. However, the world has changed a lot in the last several months. There was some uncertainty about whether it was safe or appropriate to take our scheduled anniversary trip. Given the fact that the vacation has been booked and planned for such a long time, we decided to follow through and head to Florida. I don't know when we will be able to return to Disney, but my hope is that we are able to make some positive memories during this vacation. It will be quiet here on the creation of beauty is art. this week, but I look forward to catching up with you all soon.

Have a wonderful week - and feel free to share some of your future vacation plans in the comment section below!

life lately (zoo, jesse mccartney concert, and shopping trip)

It's funny how things change. Back in my twenties, having concerts, vacations, and nights out with friends on my calendar made life feel special and exciting. These days, the best thing to see on my calendar is absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. It gives me a sense of peace and ease to know that my sleep schedule won't be interrupted, I won't have to be "on," and I can just relax into the regular routine for a little bit. Despite enjoying days where there is nothing different planned...special plans do arise from time to time. They can be a lot of fun, even though their presence on my calendar can stress me out a little bit, too. Since there have been a handful of such events in the last while, I though I would share some of the highlights. Though I want to be a hermit a lot of the time, my loved ones insist I need to be out and about. Here is to being out and about!

my barbie expo experience in montreal

It was a long day. A very long day. But when it comes to Barbie, sacrifices must be made. A few weeks back, my mom and I took the train to Montreal early in the morning...only to return back home the same day. Most of the day was spent on route and only a handful of hours were spent in Montreal, but in the end, it all worked out well. Barbie has always been an important part of my life, which is likely due to my mom and her obsession with the doll. The fashion, the glamour, and the possibilities made Barbie an absolute must back then and the same is true today. There is something so special about the doll. And that is how we ended up on a train to Montreal so we could visit the Barbie Expo. Here are a few highlights from the experience.

cottage highlights and small town shopping haul

The summer season is coming to a close and September is right around the corner. (I love the "ber" months....September, October, November, and December. We are so close to sweater weather and pumpkin spice everything. How exciting!) As has become a bit of a tradition in recent years, my family went to a cottage this August for a week. Though I am more of an inside person, everyone else in my family enjoys the water and the views. My husband went fishing, my brother went kayaking, and my parents took some scenic walks with the dog. As for me? I did my best to embrace the nature, read, spend time with loved ones, and make some memories. Here are some of the highlights and a small town shopping haul with lots of thrifted finds.

memories at the lake last forever.

Spending time outdoors is not my favourite thing to do. I am more of an air conditioning and television kind of person...but my family likes to visit a cottage each summer. (My brother likes to kayak, my husband likes to fish, and my parents like the change of scenery.) By the time this post is live, that is exactly where I will be. Though I would much prefer a week at a theme park or somewhere similarly fun, my days will be spent in nature instead. Fingers crossed that I will not come home with too many mosquito bites! This post is just to let you all know that that I will be off applying sunscreen instead of being parked in front of my computer like I normally am. You can expect new posts here on the creation of beauty is art. this time next week.

Have a wonderful week! Be sure to let me know how you are staying busy this summer in the comment section below.

buffalo shopping haul

Ahead of Mother's Day weekend, my mom told me she wanted to take a shopping trip to Buffalo, NY. So, my dad drove us across the border for a couple days. We went to an absolutely massive mall as well as Target, Walmart, and a handful of other stores. There were all sorts of exciting items to look at...and take home. Keep reading for a peek at my Buffalo shopping haul.

disney theme week: walt disney world vacation highlights

Though my vacation to Walt Disney World ended a few weeks ago...it is only now that I have been able to sit down and write about the experience. (Trying to catch up on life after a vacation is no joke.) Walt Disney World is my happy place. Though I have visited Disneyland and Disneyland Paris in the past, Walt Disney World is my favourite place on earth. It has a special kind of magic. Maybe I just like being in the Disney bubble, hidden away from all of the hurts and fears in the world. Or maybe it has to do with the four theme parks there are to explore. Whatever the reason, it is clear that Walt Disney World brings me joy. There are Mickey Mouse shaped waffles for breakfast, Mickey Mouse shaped pretzels to snack on, and well, Mickey Mouse shaped everything! To start this Disney theme week off on the right foot, here are some vacation highlights from the getaway...
