It's hard to believe that movie theatres are open and the box office is slowly (very slowly) starting to recover from shutdowns and low attendance. However, new movies are being released and red carpet events are back. Case in point? Margot Robbie at the premiere of The Suicide Squad. Now, not everyone loves superhero movies but there is something undoubtedly special about Margot Robbie. She has been in so many wonderful television shows and movies (my personal favourite will always be Pan Am) over the years. The most recent is of course, The Suicide Squad, as the iconic Harley Quinn. At the premiere of the movie, Margot certain turned heads thanks to her unexpected outfit. So...is it a love it or leave it?
What I Love: While this red carpet ensemble from Chanel is certainly causing a bit of a stir online, there is actually an awful lot to love. First of all, the hair and makeup are fabulous. I love the laid back simplicity and the fact that it allows Margot's natural beauty to shine through. Then there are the accessories. The earrings, the simple white shoes, and even the embellishments on the upper portion of the outfit are beautiful. To be honest, I also really love the pants. The shape and the draping is fairly unexpected for such a high-profile event but that almost makes it better! It is a fashion risk in a good way. The simple belt is gorgeous as well. This all-white look definitely has some high points to consider.
What I Loathe: I have to be honest...the upper portion of this outfit is a mess. There is just a lot going on. Either the long-sleeved shirt would work or the wrap design would work, but having them both happening at the same time? The outfit ends up looking pretty busy and cluttered. It is just too much. I think that is why so many people were not into this Chanel outfit. It is over the top but not in a fashion forward kind of way.
Is this a love it or leave it? Unfortunately, this is a leave it for me. It's not that there aren't good aspects to this overall look. Her hair and makeup are beautiful, the shoes are perfect, the accessories are out of this world and the pants are cool and unexpected. However, the top portion of this red carpet look is busy and overwhelming. A few minor edits would have made a significant difference....and likely would have made this premiere look a little less divisive.
What do you think? Is this outfit a love it or leave it?
