revlon photoready galaxy dream holographic highlighting palette

Last month, Revlon filed for bankruptcy. This beauty brand has been around since 1932 and has become an absolute drugstore staple. Now, filing for bankruptcy doesn't necessarily mean the brand will be gone...but some reshuffling needs to be done. Here is hoping that Revlon will continue to sell those must-have products for many years to come. Why is Revlon on my mind lately? I recently came across their Galaxy Dream Holographic Highlighting Palette at the dollar store. Yes, the dollar store. I never expected to see a highlight palette that is selling for $18 CDN elsewhere at the dollar store for a mere $4. It goes to show that it is always possible to find budget friendly beauty products. Curious about this highlighting palette? Keep reading...

Inside the Revlon Photoready Galaxy Dream Holographic Highlighting Palette, there are four different highlights to choose from. These are described as being duo chrome and having a pearly finish. This reminds me a lot of the KVD Alchemist Holographic Palette. (Which happens to be a favourite of mine. I have more than one, because I love the unique and colourful highlight colours.) This drugstore version includes a soft pink highlight, an emerald green highlight, lilac highlight, and a steel blue highlight. There is certainly enough variety to suit a wide array of makeup looks. These colourful highlights are a quick and easy way to add colour and shine to the cheeks. The colours are fabulous and the pans are large, which makes it really easy to use a highlight brush and pick up just the right amount of product. There is also a mirror inside of the Galaxy Dream Holographic Highlighting Palette as well, which is a really nice detail to see in a drugstore item.

As for the quality? This is a little hit and miss. The blue highlight colour is quite pigmented, creamy, and intense. It is by far my favourite of the four. The pink highlight is somewhere in the middle in terms of intensity. The green and lilac highlights require a lot more building up and have a drier consistency. That being said, all of the colours look beautiful on the cheeks, and this is a great dupe for the (now discontinued) KVD Alchemist Holographic Palette. If you happen to see this offering from Revlon while you are out and about, it is something that I would recommend, simply because it is fairly unique. Most highlight colours are white, silver, champagne, or golden. These are a little bit different and stand out from the rest.

For the makeup look (shown below), I used neutral matte eyeshadows and then decided to incorporate a little colour on the cheeks by making good use of that steel blue highlight. It looks pretty intense in the picture, but was even more intense and colourful in person. This highlight performs really well and stands out for all the right reasons.

Even though there are some inconsistencies from one highlight to the next, these perform well overall and are a really unique drugstore item. The colours are so fun and exciting! The Revlon Photoready Galaxy Dream Holographic Highlighting Palette was a wonderful dollar store find...but even at the original drugstore price, it is certainly worth considering.

Have you tried this highlighting palette? What did you think of it?

Great review. This highlighting palette looks nice, I like the shimmer - especially the rose one. I like your make up look, it's so cute.
