spooky streaming favourites for halloween.

Tomorrow is Halloween. That means this weekend is dedicated to all things spooky. Yes, this is the ideal time to stay inside and watch lots and lots of seasonal movies. (And enjoy some delicious treats as well. Get the candy corn and mini chocolate bars ready!) Not sure what to watch? There are so many different options, but it all depends on what you are in the mood for. Something family friendly and fun? Something scary and iconic? Something a little bit different than the usual Halloween fare? Here are lots of spooky streaming favourites to consider watching this Halloween weekend.

Family Friendly Streaming Options: When it comes to something suitable for the entire family (or something fun and lighthearted that still captures the Halloween spirit) there are some seriously wonderful options out there. It all depends on the streaming service that you have! Over on Disney+ there are plenty of cute Halloween shorts in addition to the beloved Disney Channel Original Movie, Halloweentown. There are four Halloweentown films in total for the whole family to enjoy. Another offering on Disney+ that is brand new for this year is Muppets Haunted Mansion. Based on the Walt Disney World ride, this special is an absolute must. Other streaming musts include The Addams Family on Amazon Prime and Addams Family values on Netflix. Another family friendly option is Casper, which is on Netflix. There are truly so many enjoyable options!

Old-School Horror Movies: Looking for something scary but classic? There are so many streaming options. For instance, all of the Scream movies are now available on Amazon Prime. These movies are excellent, because while they are horror, they also have that whodunnit aspect as well. Another old school must is Halloween, which is also streaming on Amazon Prime. (Just a note: those interested in the new Halloween movie, Halloween Kills, it will be available to stream on Peacock for 60 days.) Amazon Prime also has I Know What You Did Last Summer and Shudder has lots of horror movies, documentaries, and the old-school horror movie, Child's Play. Looking for something new that has an old-school feel? The Fear Street trilogy on Netflix will satisfy that craving with ease. It is inspired by the ultra popular 90s book series by R.L. Stine.

Unexpected Halloween Musts: Have you seen it all? Watched just about every Halloween offering there is to watch? Then you might be looking for something a little unexpected this season. Still spooky and still seasonally adjacent, but something just a little bit different. For instance, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark is available on Amazon Prime and features the spooky icon herself in a campy classic. Another option is Buffy the Vampire Slayer (either the movie or the show). Both are available to watch on Disney+ right now. There are also Lifetime Original Movies, like the 90s classic, Death of a Cheerleader, on Amazon Prime. These based-on-a-true-story films are certainly chilling. Return to Oz is on Disney+ and it is downright terrifying (and also amazing). Plus, the 80s classic Teen Wolf is on Amazon Prime. Whether you want something scary or thrilling or fun...there are plenty of unexpected choices to consider this Halloween season.
