does it work?? nyx epic ink liner

NYX first launched at drugstores in Canada back in 2016. (In fact, I excitedly posted about my very first NYX haul at that time. It included lots and lots of lip products among other things.) Since then, the brand has become a regular part of my makeup routine. From colourful lipsticks to eyeshadow palettes...NYX has it all. Recently, my eyeliner had run low. There were a few pencil liners left but my liquid and pen liners were all out. This is a rare occurrence! However, since the pandemic started, I really haven't been out much to stock up on those sorts of things. So, I needed something that would work well and was easy to use. The NYX Epic Ink Liner was recommended...but does it work??

review: NYX Pro Lip Cream Palette in The Plums

Oh, NYX. How quickly you have won my heart. You might remember a recent post I did about my very first haul from the brand. It was an exciting time to say the least. While continuing to make use of those new items....yet another NYX product has found its way into my life. (And my makeup collection!) My husband knows how all about my obsession with the brand. One day, he randomly told me to go pick something out. Just because. That was a really lovely surprise. Especially since I am trying not to buy new makeup. (I don't think it counts if he buys it. Right?) That is how I happened to come across the NYX Pro Lip Cream Palette in The Plums. There were a couple of different lip cream palettes to choose from. One was full of brown and nude shades. Another loaded with vibrant pinks. But there was something about The Plums that spoke to me.

Lately, I have been really into vampy lips. Darker shades that are bold and daring. This is something The Plums has in spades. There are a total of six different lip creams in the set. Some are deep plums and others deep red tones. There is even a flirty purple shade thrown in for good measure! Yes, there is certainly a nice range of colours. Each can be worn on its own or blended with one of the other lip creams to create a custom shade. Love, love, love.

Time to go over the highlights. The versatility in terms of shades is a major upside. Something else I really love? The packaging. It is sleek, simple, and sturdy. It looks professional. It protects the products. It does not feel flimsy or cheap. That makes this the perfect palette to throw into your purse. A quick touch up or colour change will be a cinch! Then there is the texture. This was very consistent throughout the palette (My pet peeve? When products in palettes are not consistent. So frustrating!). They are smooth, creamy, and easy to apply. The pigmentation itself is nice as well. These happen to be very buildable. One quick swipe will give you a lovely wash of colour. Then you can add more to create that full on vampy lip look.

This NYX palette has totally stolen my heart. When I want to wear something dark and sultry? This is the lip palette that I reach for. No questions asked. Here is a recent makeup look that I created using the first shade on the second row. It is a red-ish rust shade. Super pretty! Be sure to let me know what you think.

So there you have it. The NYX Pro Lip Cream Palette in The Plums. This was definitely a different kind of purchase for me....but I have been loving it so much. The shades are beautiful, there is a nice variety in the set, and the lip creams are easy to wear. As far as I am concerned? This is another winner from the NYX line.

Speaking of NYX.....want to see my first haul in action? To check out swatches and get some first impressions? Then be sure to watch the latest video on my YouTube channel! (Please like, comment, and subscribe if you get a chance. Your support means so much to me.)

There is something special about NYX. After years upon years of hearing about this amazing brand....I have finally been able to try it for myself. That is a pretty amazing feeling. So far? Most of the items have been major successes for me. Sure, I have my favourites. But each one has something wonderful to offer.

Do you love NYX? Share your favourite product!

new in: my very first NYX haul

NYX. This brand has been on my radar for years. Every beauty blogger, YouTuber, and makeup enthusiast I admire has spoken highly of their products. Over and over again. So, you can imagine my dismay that none of it was available in my country. Until now. NYX recently opened a store and has branched out to drugstores throughout Canada. All I can say about the move? Thank goodness.

I remember when I heard the news. My husband was driving me home from work. He had just finished his shift at the drugstore he works at. When he mentioned that they were re-doing the makeup configuration in the store. I asked why. Then he told me. To make room for NYX. We literally went to the store an hour later. And then again the next day. It was overwhelming. To watch video reviews and see tutorials using these products over and over again...and then to see them stacked in front of you? Well, it was a makeup dream come true.

There was a ton to choose from. Far more than I could justify or afford. So I started small. Ish. It came to about $150 in total. More than I planned to spend. But in no way did I regret it. As you can see from the picture above, I stuck to mostly lip products. This is because I hear amazing things about their lip products. I had to find out for myself! But I also picked up a few other odds and ends. Just to dip my toes in the water. Honestly? It will be hard for me to resist going back for more. I will do my very best, though. Promise!

So.....what did I buy? The NYX Strobe of Genuis Illuminating Palette, the Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie, the Butter Lipsticks in Razzle, Fizzies, and Candy Buttons, the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks in Vintage, Sway, and Stone Fox, the NYX High Definition Blush in Taupe, the Prismatic Shadow in Jaded, and the Vivid Brights Liquid Liner in Vivid Blossom. Phew! It was definitely an exciting buying experience.

Overall I am love-love-loving these products so far. Some have stood out to me more than others. (Like the Stone Fox Suede lipstick and the Vivid Brights liner. Amazing!) But you can expect proper reviews and tutorials in the weeks to come. There you have it! My very first NYX haul. What an exciting concept. It will take a while for the novelty to wear off. Until then....I will be head over heels for my new NYX items.

What are your favourite NYX products?

review week: NYX total control drop foundation + duo chromatic illuminating powder

NYX is one of the best drugstore brands out there. Since their line launched in Canada, I have written several reviews (like this one on their ombre blushes) and even filmed YouTube videos (like this makeup look featuring their Toronto Palette) highlighting their products. Not all of them have been out-of-this-world-amazing but they have a solid track record with me! So of course, during my visit to the drugstore....I had to make some time to check out the latest offerings from NYX. Though there were many tempting items to choose from, I wound up purchasing the NYX Total Control Control Drop Foundation and a Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder. How did they perform? Are they worth looking into? Here is everything you need to know.

nyx gimmie super stars matte lip vault (review + lipstick try on)

Lipstick used to be an essential part of every makeup look. Whether it was a matte liquid lipstick, a tinted balm, or a fabulous gloss, there was room for all finishes and colours to thrive! Then the pandemic happened. Everyone started wearing masks and lipstick became unnecessary. After almost two years of wearing lipstick only on rare occasions (for YouTube videos or around my house for no reason at all)...it was time to do a declutter. It hurt to throw away so many beautiful lip products! But it also made me want to be more mindful about the lip products I chose in future. That is why the NYX Gimmie Super Stars! Matte Lip Vault was so appealing. There were twelve mini-matte lipsticks in total...meaning it would be possible to finish each one and enjoy lots of variety. It is time to take a closer look at the NYX Gimmie Super Stars! Matte Lip Vault set.

review: nyx avant pop eyeshadow palette

I will freely admit it. NYX is an obsession. Every time I look at the store selection....I find myself bringing more and more NYX products home with me. Perhaps the novelty has not worn off just yet. The line has only been available in Canada for the last six months or so. Before that? I would watch YouTube video after YouTube video of beauty gurus gushing over NYX this and NYX that. So really, this obsession is not my fault. Or at least that is what I tell my husband.

It was after work one day. My husband told me to come into his work and wait while he finished his shift. Then there it was. Right in front of me. A wall of makeup. Who could ever resist that sort of temptation? Clearly not me, since we left the store with the NYX Avant Pop 10 Color Shadow Palette. Those colours! The shade selection! How could I possibly leave behind such a unique drugstore eyeshadow palette? It would have been criminal. As you can see from the picture above - there is a stunning range of shades inside. Neutrals, smokey shades, and unexpected pops of colour.

From left to right there is: a soft white shade with a hint of shimmer, a vibrant neon yellow/green, a super pigmented (and super shimmery) teal shade, a medium brown, a rosy taupe, a shimmery silver, a bold navy, a light grey, a soft peach, and a matte black. See what I mean? There is a ton of shade variety in this 10 shadow set. This makes me positively giddy. There is nothing I hate more than palettes that are incomplete. I like to have everything I need in one foul swoop. This certainly delivers on that end. There are shimmery shades as well as matte shades and satin finishes. There are light shades, dark shades, and pops of colour. It is a one-stop-shop kind of palette.

Needless to say.....I love the colour selection. Though there are shades that I love more than others. That teal has quickly become one of my all-time favourite eyeshadow shades. That rosy taupe is a must for blending out the crease. That neon yellow (or green. It depends how the light hits it) pushes me to step out of my comfort zone. This is most definitely a fun and exciting eyeshadow set.

As for the texture and pigmentation? No major complaints. Most of the shades are extremely soft and easy to use. They blend well and are highly pigmented. However there is a bit of inconsistency from one colour to the next. The medium brown for instance is drier than say the silver shade. Same with that shimmery white. For the most part the quality of the shadows is impressive. There are just a few minor misses in here. The shadows do perform well. They simply do not have the same buttery texture that the others do. It is a shame really! This was almost the perfect palette.

The first day I brought home the NYX Avant Pop 10 Color Shadow Palette, I decided to have a little fun. I used that teal shade on the lid, blended out with the taupe, added a little bit of black to the outer corner, and popped the navy blue on the lower lash line. It was a lot of fun. Mostly because I was playing with makeup for the sake of playing with makeup. I had no where to go and no one to see. It was all about doing something for me. Here is a peek at the final product....

The NYX Avant Pop 10 Color Shadow Palette impressed me. A lot. The colours are gorgeous! I love playing with different colour combinations and seeing what I can create. This is certainly an eyeshadow set that allows you to do something different. Thank goodness for that.

What do you think of this eyeshadow palette? Do you love NYX?

review and makeup look: nyx shadow and liner set

It is no secret that makeup is a passion of mine. I love to use it, test out different products, and have fun tapping into my creative side. Since it is such an important part of my day-to-day life, my loved ones often treat me to different products. Some are gifted around holidays and some are gifted for no reason at all. The NYX Shadow and Liner Set falls into the latter category. It was such a lovely surprise and completely perked up a more difficult day. Since then, I have been putting this drugstore set from NYX to the test. It included two different items: That's The Point Eyeliner and the Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette. Ready to take a closer look and find out how these products perform? Here are all the details  you need to know.

#FOTD: NYX ultimate shadow palette (warm neutrals)

Makeup reflects words unspoken. It has meaning. I initially fell in love with makeup, because it was somehow able to say all of the things I could not speak aloud. These days, makeup continues to be a form of self expression. The colours, finishes, and products that I choose on any given day are intentional. Recently, it was the NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals that was the right choice. There were some dark and dramatic neutrals calling my name. Ready to take a closer look at this neutral eyeshadow palette from NYX and a recent #FOTD? Keep reading for a mini review and makeup look.

#FOTD feat. NYX Love Lust Disco Collection

Every once and a while, a collection comes out that is instantly intriguing. That perfect describes the Love Lust Disco collection from NYX. There was so much to choose from! Lip sets, eyeshadow palettes, and even highlight sets. It was overwhelming in the best possible way. Luckily, there are a handful of items from the collection that I've been able to put to use lately. That includes the Love Lust Disco Rose and Play Shadow Palette, the Lip Lingerie Kit, and the Lip Cream Lip Vault. Ready to see some of those products in action? How about a mini review or two? Here goes....

theme week: lip products (NYX shine loud high shine lip color)

Well, the lip products theme week is wrapping up here on the creation of beauty is art. Over the last several days, there have been all sorts of different lipsticks, lip stains, and balms featured. Now? It is time to talk about the NYX Shine Loud High Shine Lip Color, which is described as a high-shine, long-lasting lip gloss. Apparently, this has been creating lots of buzz on TikTok, but that is not something that I can speak to. Honestly? I don't have TikTok and have no plans for it, considering the degradation and abuse that can spread like wildfire on the platform. There are so many issues with social media sites and user-created content apps. The amount of misinformation out there...the creators who profit off of pain...it really bothers me. Though I still use social media and consume certain types of content, it is something that I try to be very mindful about these days. On a happier note, there is always makeup. Here is everything you need to know about the NYX lip product that is generating buzz.

obsessed with: NYX wicked dreams eyeshadow palette

Oh, NYX. How I love thee. This is one brand that continues to wow me with their unique range of products and high-quality offerings. It seems that over the last little while, I have added more and more NYX products to my ever expanding makeup collection. Some of them I've picked up on my own while others have been given to me as gifts. The Wicked Dreams eyeshadow palette is an example of the latter. One of my friends gave me this gorgeous eyeshadow set as part of our Secret Santa exchange this year. (Yes, this review is long overdue!)

Over the last several months, I've been using this palette to create a variety of makeup looks. Some smokey, others simple, and a few of them downright colourful. So....what is this palette like? Let's break it down and take a closer look at the NYX Wicked Dreams eyeshadow palette.

Packaging. I have to say, this packaging is fantastic. The palette itself is compact, sturdy, and simple. The small palette clicks closed which means there is no worrying about shades crumbling or cracking. This is a phenomenal palette to travel with or throw into your purse for any last minute touch ups simply because the packaging is so fabulous. It really is super sturdy!

Quality. Most of the NYX products I've tried have been lip products. While I've tried out a few single eyeshadows, this was my first time using a full on palette. Generally, the quality of the shadows is good not great. Some of the colours are extremely pigmented and easy to use. Others do not have the same kind of payoff. Because of the inconsistency, I find myself using a lot of the same colours over and over again. The shades with shimmer tend to be smoother and more colourful but most of the deeper shades work well. The so-so colours are the lighter and mid-toned shadows.

Overall Impressions. This is an amazing on-the-go eyeshadow palette. While not all of the eyeshadow shades are equally pigmented, there is a great selection of colours and finishes. Not to mention the ultra compact packaging. The Wicked Dreams palette is a fabulous choice for travel makeup...which is exactly what I'll be using it for in the weeks to come!

Below is a super quick makeup look I created using the NYX eyeshadow palette. The shimmery olive green shade was used all over the lid with the shimmery brown (with gold flecks) used in the crease. The deep blue was used along the lower lash line and that shimmery champagne shade was used in the inner corner and underneath the brow bone.....

Have you tried this NYX eyeshadow palette?

review: nyx money heist color palette

The watch list on my Netflix account is out of control. One example? I went to start the new season of The Circle...only to discover that I never finished the last season of The Circle. Oops. It is difficult to stay on top of everything. Especially since there are so many different streaming services these days. Honestly? I love television shows and movies an awful lot. If it were up to me, I would watch things all day every day, but alas, there are always other things that need to be done. Hopefully one day soon, I will be able to whittle down my list and watch another show that I have long been meaning to tackle: Money Heist. I've heard incredible things about it and very much want to watch. Until that time, I will have to satisfy my curiosity with the Money Heist Color Palette from NYX. My husband treated me to this, because he knew that the eyeshadow shades were ones that would get a lot of use from me. He was right! I have been putting this nine-shadow palette to the test and the colours are definitely in my wheelhouse. Ready to take a look inside? Here is everything you need to know about this drugstore release.

welcome december + nyx ultimate flamingo frost review

Ahh...somehow December is here again. Part of me is thrilled (snow and advent calendars and holiday movies) and part of me is sad (because this month always seems to pass too quickly). I wish there was a way to slow things down and savor every single moment of the holiday season. After all, it can be difficult to sandwich in the magic between work and other responsibilities! Despite the challenges, making time for holiday magic is something that I am focused on this month. Even when it comes to my makeup routine. This month, even my beauty products are holiday themed. Take the NYX Ultimate Flamingo Frost Shadow Palette as an example. Talk about festive! To kickstart the last month of the year, it is time to review a seasonal eyeshadow palette from NYX. Keep reading to find out how the Ultimate Flamingo Frost Shadow Palette performs.

review: nyx perfect filter eyeshadow palette (olive you)

There is no such thing as too much eyeshadow. When it comes to beauty products, it is always on the very top of my list. Though eyeliner and mascara are must-haves....eyeshadow fuels my creativity like nothing else. I love playing with colours, finishes, and textures to create a head-turning makeup look. Recently, I came across the NYX Perfect Filter eyeshadow palette in Olive You. The shades were immediately attractive to me because many of them were quite different from the shadows already in my makeup collection. So, I decided to take the plunge and give Olive You a try.

ultimate to-go product: NYX it's a barbie party mini palette

Barbie is always on my mind these days. I have seen The Barbie Movie several times at this point (and would love to see it again but it is probably best that I wait for the eventual DVD release) and am continuing to enjoy all of the various Barbie themed collaborations. Take the NYX x Barbie collection that was released recently. To be honest, every single item in the collection looks fabulous. All of the products are so fun, colourful, and well themed. Though it would be amazing to have it all, ultimately, it was the It's a Barbie Party Mini Palette that was added to my makeup collection. There is so much to love about this teeny tiny travel friendly release. Ready to find out all the details? Here is everything you need to know...

new in: nyx liquid suede

The easiest way to my heart? Makeup. Which is exactly why my husband skips bouquets of flowers and brings me makeup instead. Earlier in the week, he did just that, treating me to a set of NYX Liquid Suede cream lipsticks. Talk about true love! The set included the shades: Respect The Pink, Sway, and Subversive Socialite. The first was a bright Barbie doll kind of pink, the second, a bright purple, and the last a deep vampy purple.

In the past, I have tried a handful of the Liquid Suede shades and love them. The formula is creamy, easy to apply, and comfortable on the lips. Plus, the pigmentation is always on point. These are high-quality lipsticks that last well and look amazing. After trying these three new shades, I have to say, Respect The Pink is my all-time favourite from the Liquid Suede line. It is bright, bold, and so fun. I feel confident whenever I put it on. Sway is another favourite. This colour is bold and bright as well...but super easy to wear. It will be a must have once springtime rolls around. The last, Subversive Socialite, is ultra vampy and would be great for fall.

Since I already had my colourful Kim K look going on from my last post...I decided to snap a few pictures of the NYX shades in action. Take a look and let me know which colour you like best.

Left to Right: Respect The Pink, Sway, and Subversive Socialite.

NYX is a brand that continues to impress me. Which is probably why there are so many NYX products in my makeup collection! These shades are drop dead gorgeous - and I cannot wait to wear them over and over again.

If you're looking for some more colour inspiration, be sure to check out my latest YouTube video. It is a review of the Too Faced Totally Cute palette. The best part? It features three different looks created with the eyeshadow shades! Take a look if you get a moment...

What do you think of these shades? Are you a fan of NYX?

#FOTD: bronze and gold fall makeup look

It is time for another #FOTD. Lately, one of my favourite things has been to do my makeup for no reason at all. I really don't leave the house much (thanks to working from home and doing everything possible to stay safe)...so a little makeup look can really go a long way. Not only does it boost my mood and make me feel a little more polished, but it adds a bit of normality to my days. Not to mention a healthy dose of self expression! Since the fall season is fully underway, my go-to colours seem to be lots of warm bronzes and golds. They just scream autumn because they remind me of the leaves changing colour and all of those stunning warm shades. It also helps that warm metallics are ideal for everyday makeup looks. Ready to take a peek at this recent fall makeup look? Keep reading to find out what products were used and how this seasonal makeup was created.

#FOTD: soft pink makeup look (feat. holiday products)

Officially, winter doesn't start until December 21st, but in my mind, the season is already here. This might have to do with the fact that there are Christmas decorations everywhere you look. Or perhaps it has to do with the snow that has already fallen. Whatever the reason, my heart is full of seasonal joy. A lot of people love the summer months, but I tend to thrive during the fall and winter. Currently, my home is decorated and I am tackling my holiday to-do list. I have watched a ton of festive movies and have listened to hours upon hours of Christmas songs. There is so much to love about this time of year! Since I am fully immersed in all things winter, it only made sense to use a few holiday beauty products to create a recent #FOTD.

current obsession: NYX intense butter gloss

Even though NYX products have been in Canada for over a year now (wow...time really flies), it still makes me giddy to reach for their makeup day after day. I suppose the novelty has not worn off just yet. From face palettes to eyeshadows and lip products, NYX continues to impress. Especially when it comes to their line of Intense Butter Gloss lip glosses. Generally speaking, I am not a huge fan of lip glosses. Most of them - even high end versions - are sticky and uncomfortable to wear. This is not the case with the Intense Butter Glosses.

Not only are they comfortable to wear, smooth rather than sticky, and easy to apply....the shades pack a serious punch. That is my other gripe about the majority of lip glosses on the market. Most of them have super sheer colour payoff, if any. These glosses on the other hand have tons of pigmentation. They can be worn over a lipstick shade for a super bold look but add just as much colour to the lips when worn alone. In addition to the Intense Butter Glosses, I also have a couple of the normal Butter Glosses in my makeup collection. These are also super smooth, comfortable, and have an impressive amount of pigmentation.

Below are some swatches of the current favourites in my collection. The three on the left are from the Intense Butter Gloss line while the last two are from the traditional Butter Gloss collection.

Swatches (Left to Right)
Banana Royale, Orangesicle, Funnel Delight, Strawberry Parfait, and Peaches and Cream.

Though there are other NYX lip products in my makeup collection, these are the shades that I have been loving lately. They are so perfect for the summertime! I love the bold peaches, corals, and pinks. With lots of pigmentation and comfort on the lips....these are the perfect glosses for any and all summer activities. Lately, I've been throwing a shade in my purse or applying one before I go anywhere. Whether I'm going grocery shopping, hanging out with a friend, or taking a walk outside. These glosses are a must-have.

Here is a picture of a recent makeup look I created, using Orangesicle (my personal favourite) to add a pop of colour. It was worn alone, so this should give you an idea of how pigmented these glosses really are....

NYX has a ton of amazing products to choose from. Lately, these Butter Glosses have become my go-to makeup item. Yes, they are without a doubt my current beauty obsession.

Have you tried these glosses? What did you think of them?

review: NYX ombre blushes

I swear, it has been all-NYX-all-the time here lately! There is no specific reason for this...apart from loving the brand. It seems there has been a major influx of NYX products in my life lately. The latest? Two of their new ombre blushes.

It was early on a Sunday morning. My husband had talked me into getting my makeup done at a nearby drugstore. (To learn more about applying makeup on other people, which is something I would like to do from time to time.) Afterward, I browsed the display of NYX products and the display of ombre blushes took my breath away. There were three shades in total: Feel the Heat, Sweet Spring, and Warm Nude. The first two came home with me but I decided against the nude blush, because it looked too much like products already in my collection.

As you can see from the picture above, these are seriously gorgeous. It is pretty obvious why I was so desperate to give these a try. Feel the Heat is an orange/coral toned blush while Sweet Spring is a pink/rose coloured shade. Both are just as beautiful on the cheeks as they appear in the plan. They are colourful, vibrant, and highly pigmented. One thing to remember? Since these are so pigmented, it is easy to go overboard. So, be sure to pay close attention to your application.

Something I really like about this ombre style blush is the versatility. You can wear the lighter part of the blush for a softer finish or use the whole thing for a more intense pop. Feel The Heat is a fabulous summer shade (thanks to those stunning coral tones) and would look great on tanned skin - and Sweet Spring is the perfect match for a romantic floral print dress. Here is a look at Feel The Heat paired with a warm smokey eye look.

If you come across these ombre shades at your local NYX store or drugstore...give them a try. They are the perfect item for any blush addict. And if you're after a more neutral shade? Warm Nude will be your new BFF this season. This line of blushes has it all. They are highly pigmented, look beautiful on the skin, and are decently priced.

Have you tried these yet? What do you think of them?
