barbie inspired makeup look (high end and drugstore products)

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Some days, the inspiration comes from an old-school music video and other times, it comes from a celebrity snap on social media. Most recently? I was inspired by the icon herself...Barbie. It is no secret that Barbie has been part of my life for a very long time. (Take a peek at my review of the Pur x Barbie collection for more on that.) I love that Barbie can be so many things to so many people. Personally, when I think about Barbie, I think about the colour pink. So I tried to create a wearable makeup look that incorporated lots and lots of pink coloured products. Want to see the finished look? Find out more about the products used? Here is a Barbie inspired makeup look using both high end and drugstore items.

Core Products. There were several essential makeup items used to create this Barbie inspired makeup look. The Essence Eyebrow Designer Brow Pencil was used to lightly shape and fill in the brows. The NYX Epic Ink Liner was used to create a soft winged eyeliner look. The Super Sizer from Cover Girl (the waterproof version, because summer is here and that means my mascara needs to be able to last through all kinds of weather conditions) was used to lengthen the lashes. And then the last core product used was the L'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow foundation. This foundation is really lightweight and is ideal for everyday use. Especially for those with dry skin. Once the essentials were taken care of, it was time to focus on the eyes.

Jaclyn Hill Volume II Eyeshadow Palette. Then it was time for the fun stuff....eyeshadow. My favourite part. When it comes to pink eyeshadows, there were quite a few to choose from in my collection, but the Jaclyn Hill Volume II Eyeshadow Palette from Morphe seemed like the best choice. It had some really fabulous Barbie style pink shades but also some really wonderful transition colours. I started with the warm brown shade G Money through the crease. Then blended upwards with a lighter brown shade, Love Handles. (You've got to love the shadow names in this palette, right?!) Then it was the white shade, Certified, all over the lid. Lolli Mama, the deeper pink, was used on the outer portion of the eye and then a bit of Tipsy Girl, the brighter pink, was applied on top for an extra pop of colour. On the lower lash line, it was a bit of the black shade, Temptress, on the outer portion and a bit more Tipsy Girl on the remainder. The end result was pink, Barbie inspired, but still wearable.

Cheek Products. On the cheeks, it was the soft pink blush shade from an older Elf palette in my collection. Though I was tempted to wear a blush that was ultra bright pink...the more muted pink allowed the pink eyeshadow to stand out a little bit more. Then on top, it was the Physicians Formula Butter Highlighter. This particular highlighter is absolutely stunning. It is so shimmery and warm. That soft pink highlight was the ideal choice for a Barbie kind of makeup look.

Lip Products. On the lips, there were two products used. One was a sheer pink-purple lipstick from Mariposa. Since that particular lipstick was purchased at the dollar store in a set (if you are looking for pretty impressive dollar store items....keep your eyes peeled for Mariposa. Ultra affordable and some really great quality products overall) the lipstick doesn't have an actual shade name. But it is beautiful! The colour is semi-sheer and very buildable. To add in a little more of that pink glossy lip that is associated with Barbie, the NARS lip gloss in Turkish Delight was layered on top.

Now it is time to take a look at the end result. While it wasn't perfect, this Barbie inspired makeup look was certain fun to create on a random weekday for no reason at all. Sometimes, it is the little things that mean the most.

What do you think of this Barbie inspired makeup look? What has been inspiring you lately?
