review: makeup by mario (master metallics eyeshadow palette)

Makeup by Mario is a brand to look out for. Mario Dedivanovic is a well-known and beloved makeup artist who has been making waves with beauty retailers lately. His Makeup by Mario line was released last year and the initial launch focused primarily on eye products. Since then, all sorts of cheek and face sculpting products have been added to the line, but today it is all about the eyes. A little while ago, some of the Makeup by Mario palettes were added to my makeup collection. (Check out that mini haul here.) Now? It is time for a full review of the Master Metallics Eyeshadow Palette. 

Talk about a gorgeous colour story! There are so many beautiful (and warm) eyeshadow shades. That includes a variety of different golds and coppers, burgundy shades, cream colours, a rich forest green, and even a shimmery black. The Master Metallics Eyeshadow Palette certainly has a lot going for it in terms of the variety of colours. There are light shades, medium shades, pops of colour, and darker shades for variety. Despite the fact that this is an all shimmer palette, there are so many different makeup looks that can be created. From simple one shadow makeup looks to more dramatic evening inspired creations....anything is possible. Ready to take a closer look at the eyeshadow shades? See how they actually perform? Here are some swatches from the Master Metallics Eyeshadow Palette. 

As you can see from those swatches, this palette does not mess around. It is ultra shimmery! Some shades are more reflective and glittery than others...but they all have that metallic shine happening. There are several standouts. Like that warm copper shade on the top row, the forest green colour, and the burgundy eyeshadow shade on the last row. Unfortunately, these eyeshadows do not exactly have well thought out names. They are Metallic 1, Metallic 2....and so on. Though I certainly understand that from a more professional perspective, for the average consumer, the shade names are a little ho-hum. 

In terms of the overall quality? The formula for these Makeup By Mario shadows is impressive. Each colour is creamy, richly pigmented, and goes on like a dream. If you are looking for something that is boldly shimmery but still ultra wearable, this palette will be right up your alley. However, there is something else to consider: the price. At $64 CDN, this is a pretty pricey eyeshadow palette. Sure, there are some that are more expensive, but there are certainly some that are less expensive. And when it comes to shimmery eyeshadow shades, there are high-quality items from the drugstore that will perform just as well as this beautiful Makeup by Mario eyeshadow palette. One example is Essence. Some of their shimmer shades are extraordinary and cost a fraction of the price. Wet n Wild is another brand that excels at eyeshadow and Cover Girl has some excellent shimmers and metallics to choose from. Definitely consider your budget before you splurge on this high end item.

Overall, the Master Metallics Eyeshadow Palette is a winner. The colours are beautiful, the formula is top notch, and the packaging is sleek and simple. I absolutely love using this fabulous palette! However, there are other shimmer eyeshadows that will wow for a fraction of the price. Don't be afraid to consider other options if you are on a beauty budget.
