Has it ever happened to you? There is one specific item you have your heart set on and yet, it always seems to be out of stock at Sephora. That pretty much sums up my experience with Huda Beauty. Though I was able to get my hands on the mini eyeshadow palette (you can check out my review of Warm Obsessions here), the Desert Dusk Palette eluded me. I had checked multiple locations over the span of several months and still....nothing. It was sold out everywhere I looked. Then finally, there it was. On my New York City trip, one of the Sephora's we visited had it in stock. Hurrah! Was it worth the wait? Did it live up to the massive hype? Here is everything you need to know about Huda Beauty's Desert Dusk palette.
Desert Dusk Palette and Swatches
As you can see from the picture above, this is a seriously stunning eyeshadow palette. There are tons of beautiful shades to choose from. That includes several light colours and neutrals, lots of warm tones, and some beautiful pinks and purples. Something that really makes this palette stand out (in addition to the warm and romantic shades) are the many different finishes. There are mattes, pearls, shimmers, a holographic shadow, and even a chunky glitter to choose from. Talk about variety! Sure, they look great in the palette but it all comes down to the swatches. Here they are, row by row.
Quality and Pigmentation
Like the Warm Obsessions palette, these are some crazy pigmented shadows. The mattes especially have a ton of colour payoff and are buttery smooth. They blend really easily and are a dream to work with. Similarly, the pearl and shimmer shades are extremely pigmented and look beautiful applied to the lids. (The standout shimmer is Blood Moon, which is in row one.) Then there is also a gorgeous holographic eyeshadow that is a soft purple with hints of blue (Twilight). To finish it all off, there is even a full blown glitter shade, Cosmo. This is a gorgeous coppery toned shade and I absolutely love that it was included. The only drawback is that this glitter doesn't perform like a typical eyeshadow, despite being in a traditional eyeshadow palette. It works best with a glitter glue to avoid fallout.
Overall Impressions and Makeup Look
Though the glitter shadow is a little harder to use on its own...this is a fantastic eyeshadow palette overall. I love all of the warm tones included in the set and have used them a lot (which you can see in the picture above). They are stunning! More recently though, I have been all about the purples. They are so pretty and using the lighter shimmery shades with them creates a beautiful makeup look. With so many finishes and colours to choose from, the Desert Dusk Palette is both versatile and drop dead gorgeous. I absolutely love it. This was well worth the wait!
