small town shopping haul (books, music, and movies)

I cannot be trusted in thrift stores, antique stores, or anywhere that sells music, movies, and books. This is clear based on the shopping that I did during the recent cottage trip with my family. Though the cottage is still not my favourite place to be (unfamiliar location, nature, mosquitos, and all the rest) there are usually some good finds at the various stores nearby. Sadly, my favourite store, Kicking Cowgirl Designs closed down, but there were still some fun items that were brought home.

Music, Music, and More Music. My music collection makes me extremely happy - and I love being able to choose what to listen to based on my mood. Thrift stores and antique stores are wonderful places to find treasures to add to that collection. Thanks to some small town shopping, there were some records, cassettes, and CDs that were added to my collection. The records are from Ricky Nelson (an expensive addition from an antique store, but the record is in flawless condition), Perry Como, and Shaun Cassidy. I found the Perry Como and Shaun Cassidy records at a thrift store for only a few dollars as well as a Reba McEntire cassette and Donny Osmond cassette. I also found a Christmas compilation set and a Frank Sinatra double CD set.

TV Shows and Movies. I guess there are a lot of loves in my life, because in addition to enjoying music, movies and television shows also make me smile. There were a few DVDs that I found at thrift stores and antique stores for next to nothing, including some Cake Boss episodes, horror movies, classic movies, and even a Carpenters DVD with live performances. Out of all of the movies, it was Sorority Row that I was most excited to find. I watched this for the first time a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. Spooky season is on the horizon once again - and now I can add this movie to my seasonal watch list.

All The Cozy Mystery Books. Oh, how I love a whodunnit. Cozy mystery novels are easily my most read genre. I don't know why I love them so much, but I do, and most of this small town shopping haul consists of the coziest of cozy books. (All are mysteries with the exception of one Christmas book that I plan to read in December.) There were fifteen that came home with me thanks to a few thrift store finds and a discount store that sold mystery novel for only a few dollars. There were some familiar authors, like Joanne Fluke, Leslie Meier, and Donald Bain (the author of many Murder She Wrote books), and a whole lot of new to me authors. I cannot wait to each and every one over the next little while. There are a couple that seem especially well suited to spooky season, so those need to be prioritized and added to my seasonal reading list.

Have you done any shopping lately? What do you think of these items?

  1. Bom final de semana. Uma coisa que eu tento de uma cidade que eu quero conhecer, uma lembrança, um souvinir ou um chaveiro para a minha coleção.
