revisited review: too faced christmas in the city set

The month of December often causes me to reflect on the past. Sometimes that means thinking back on traditions and seasonal memories. Other times, it means there is a renewed focus on makeup releases from the last year or so. The latter is certainly true today. I continue to make the most of the Too Faced Christmas In The City Holiday Makeup Set that was released around this time last year. My sister gifted me the set for Christmas and it has been a serious love ever since. Ready for a revisited review? Here are some updated thoughts, personal reflections, and even a makeup look for good measure.

As a reminder, the set included a mini Better Than Sex mascara (which was used and disposed of long ago), a blush set, and two different eyeshadow palettes. The theme was essentially Christmas Around The World and the packaging featured festive scenes in Rome, Paris, and Los Angeles. Now that I have been using these products for the last ten months or so...it is possible to speak more on what stands out and what has been used most often. Let's start with the Christmas In Rome Face Palette. This palette included four different blush shades, in a soft peach, deep pink, soft rose, and brown-peach. Honestly? This blush palette has seen a lot of action over the course of 2022. I especially love the shade, Cuter On a Scooter, which is a deep pink and pairs well with a lot of warmer makeup looks. That being said, all of the blush shades have been used often. This is a really well rounded blush palette. The blushes themselves have a nice amount of colour payoff, blend well, and are complimentary to a wide variety of makeup looks. Almost a year later, and the Christmas In Rome Face Palette is still a winner.

The blushes have become an essential part of my everyday makeup looks, but what about the palettes? This holiday set came with two eyeshadow palettes: Christmas in Los Angeles and Christmas in Paris. Both palettes have their strengths, since there are lots of different colours and finishes to choose from. Let's start with the Christmas in Los Angeles palette. This has warm browns, golds, pinks, and even a beautiful shimmery blue. It is possible to pull together a colourful but wearable makeup look using the palette. My most used shades are the shimmers, like Touch Your Elf and Yule By The Pool. I just love how glitzy and fun those eyeshadows are. Plus, there are some great matte shades to balance it all out, like Christmas In Bels and Hollywood & Twine. The Christmas in Los Angeles palette is fun and has colourful options, but ultimately, is suitable for all skill levels.

Now for the Christmas In Paris palette. It was used to create the look shown above and has been used on a fairly consistent basis over the last ten months. I just love the warm colours! There are lots of pretty brown, gold, and champagne shades as well as some pops of pink and even a soft green-gold glitter. This is another easy to use eyeshadow palette that has some room for adventure. It is important to note that some of the glittery shades can cause fallout in the palette itself, but that doesn't tend to be an issue with application itself. These shadows stay put quite well. The standout shades for me are, Let Them Eat Cake, Ladies Who Louvre, Chocolate Croissant, and Simply Magical. There is a nice variety of finishes and it is possible to create a lot of really beautiful makeup looks using this palette. No wonder the Christmas In Paris palette is something that I come back to over and over again. The colour story is excellent, the quality is impressive, and the theme is really well done.

I love holiday themed palettes. It is fun to use them all year round, but it is especially fun to highlight their strengths once December rolls around again.  There have been a lot of Too Faced holiday sets in my life over the last several years...but each one holds a special place in my heart. The Christmas In The City set was a seriously stellar release.

Were you able to try out the Christmas In The City set last year? Are any holiday sets on your wish list this year?
