peanuts x wet n wild eyeshadow palette (review + holiday #FOTD)

Christmas time is here, families drawing near. Oh, that we could always see, such spirit through the year. Some holiday specials are iconic for good reason. A Charlie Brown Christmas is certainly iconic, beloved, and a tradition for many families. Several months back, it was announced that there would be a Wet n Wild collaboration with the Peanuts brand just in time for Christmas. This announcement left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, it sounded amazing. On the other hand, we don't tend to see limited edition offerings from Wet n Wild where I live. It seemed unlikely that I would be able to own anything from the collection. However, since my mom and I visited Frankenmuth last month, we were able to visit a few US stores. Luckily, the Peanuts x Wet n Wild items were available there. Though I wanted absolutely everything, it was only the Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown! Eyeshadow Palette that came home with me. It was about $17 USD, which was pricey, especially considering the fact that Wet n Wild has always been so affordable. Apparently not anymore! Since Christmas Day is right around the corner...this seemed like the perfect time to talk about this seasonal makeup release and share a holiday themed #FOTD.

Everything about this palette screams holiday. There is lots of glitter and shimmer. There are golds, pinks, and icy blues. Yes, it is possible to create lots and lots of seasonal makeup looks using the Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown! Eyeshadow Palette. In terms of the packaging, this is pretty standard for the drugstore. It is a light blue plastic palette with a clear plastic lid. The material is certainly not luxe, but it does what it is intended to do. That being said, there are some nice details that are worth noting. The clear lid on the front has lots of adorable cartoon Peanuts characters. There is even a Christmas tree in the center and Christmas lights along the top. Though the packaging is nothing special...the cartoon characters sure are. This really adds to the theme. Inside the palette, the matte shadows have themed imprints. There is Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and a wrapped present. So cute! On the back, there is a sticker with all of the palette ingredients and information. Including eyeshadow names. This is a rarity for the drugstore. So often, this is where drugstore palettes and quads fall flat. It is wonderful that Wet n Wild focused on the details to make sure this was a well rounded and thoughtful collaboration.

How did these eyeshadows actually perform? The Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown! palette is a bit hit or miss, but there are a lot more hits than misses. The shimmer and matte shades perform well and have a nice amount of colour payoff. The mattes are really easy to blend and the shimmers have a gorgeous finish. As I mentioned, there are some hits and misses. Though there are a lot of hits, like Paint It Pink, Ice Skating, and Peppermint Patty...one shadow stands out from all the rest. Needs Sugar is a gorgeous shimmery white with flecks of pink glitter throughout. It has easily become my most used eyeshadow this holiday season. Need a quick and easy makeup look? Apply the shade, Needs Sugar, all over the lid, add on a bit of liner and mascara, and head out the door. This shade works alone or can be incorporated into a dazzling holiday look. I am obsessed. Now to discuss the misses. These are primarily the glitter shades. The glitter is hard and chunky. It looks pretty when applied, but the texture is not ideal, and it doesn't pick up well on a brush. It is better to use a finger or sponge tip applicator to apply.

For the holiday #FOTD shown above, a few different shadows were put to use. It all started with Pantophobia, that shimmery purple. That shade was applied on most of the eyelid. Next, Peppermint Patty, the shimmery green, was applied on the outer third for some sparkle, shine, and contrast. A hint of Hee Hee Hee, a warm gold, was gently added on top of the purple and applied along the lower lash line with an extra dose of Peppermint Patty. I have done a lot of traditional holiday looks this season, so it was fun to do something that was a little bit different, but still felt very seasonal. Some liner and mascara finished off the eyes. On the cheeks, there was a taupe coloured blush, and the lips were a matte brown.

Overall, the Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown! Eyeshadow Palette was a winner. I love the variety of finishes, the bold colour story, the theme, and of course, the shade Needs Sugar. There is an awful lot to love here. Though the price point was high for the drugstore (a whopping $17 USD), this Peanuts x Wet n Wild eyeshadow palette delivers.

Have you tried anything from the Peanuts x Wet n Wild collaboration? What did you think of the products?
