skin care review: masque bar mask set

Confession: I have been slacking when it comes to face masks. In fact, my entire skin care routine has been less than consistent lately. There is no concrete reason for this, other than the summer blues and feeling a little out of sorts. In an effort to feel more like myself, my days have included a lot of self-care recently. This has involved taking time to read, Disney inspired essential oils, watching old episodes of Survivor, and putting some face masks to use. The set shown above was gifted to me at Christmas, but for whatever reason, it did not receive my full attention until the last few weeks. Since all four Masque Bar masks have now been used, it seemed like an appropriate time for some mini reviews. Keep reading for all the details...

This particular Masque Bar set came with four different types of masks. There was a nice variety provided, which includes:
  • Anti-Imperfection Mud Mask with Vitamin A. The first mask is a traditional mud mask. Though this type of mask can be messier than some others (especially during the removal process) it feels a little nostalgic for me, because there was this mud mask from Freeman that I was obsessed with many years ago. It made me feel so fancy whenever I applied the product. So, this mud mask from Masque Bar was a little messy, but managed to deliver that at-home spa experience. This particular mask is intended to cleanse and soothe. After use, my skin felt really nice and smooth. However, this claims to have a non-drying formula, but my skin was a bit dry in areas where I tend to have issues, like my forehead and cheeks. All in all, a good mask to use, but not my all-time favourite.
  • Luminizing Charcoal Peel Off Mask. This next mask is not my favourite. There is something about a peel off mask that does not make me entirely happy. I have used different peel off masks in the past, but it is not my favourite type overall. The Luminizing Charcoal Peel Off Mask is intended to draw out dirt and oil and deep clean the skin. It works well and my skin definitely felt a lot better after use, but it also was a bit drying in certain areas. I feel like this was better suited to the oily part of my face, like my nose, than it was to the dry parts of my face, like my forehead and cheeks. This was a nice mask to put to the test, but again, not a standout favourite.
  • Brightening Sheet Mask with Vitamin C. Sheet masks are always my preference, because they are so easy to use. I like that it can be applied and removed with ease. This mask is intended to illuminate and purify the skin and has ingredients like Vitamin C, orange extract, and licorice root. This had a really nice smell, the sheet mask itself was biodegradable, and my skin looked healthy and glowy - both immediately after use and the next day. This was a simple and effective sheet mask. Out of the four masks included in this seasonal set, this was a standout.
  • Anti-Wrinkle Sheet Mask with Hyaluronic Acid. The last mask included in this Masque Bar set is another sheet mask. This is intended to improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles. There are certainly some of those on my face, so the idea of the mask was intriguing. Did this make a difference in the appearance of my lines? No, but I didn't expect it to. After all, it's only one sheet mask. There is only so much a mask can do in twenty to thirty minutes. On the plus side, this mask made my skin feel soft and smooth afterward and it had a nice refreshing scent.
It has been nice to put these masks from Masque Bar to the test. My mood is still a little blah, but my skin is pampered.

Have you tried anything from Masque Bar? What kind of skin care products do you like best?
