It seems my current music obsession is one that many others have as well. Recently, the global girl group, KATSEYE, announced a number of tour dates in the fall. I tried my best to purchase one ticket for the show nearest me during the presale...and found that I was number 21,380 in the Ticketmaster queue for a venue that holds 5,000. Thankfully, my luck was much better during the general sale and I happened to refresh at the exact right moment. I will be seeing KATSEYE this fall! Even though I will be at the very back of the venue, I am so exited to be able to attend. In the meantime, their new album, Beautiful Chaos will be keeping me entertained. Since the KATSEYE releases come with all sorts of fun extras, it seemed only right to share some of the items that were included in my version of the Beautiful Chaos album and talk about the newly released music.

current music obsession: beautiful chaos from katseye
The new album, Beautiful Chaos, is the second EP from KATSEYE and it has a different sound from the Soft Is Strong EP. Though the new album has amazing songs, it has a bit more of a mature sound and experiments with some different pop and pop adjacent genres. The lead single, Gnarly, was not something that I liked on first listen. Or second. Or third. Yet here I am now obsessed with the song. It was definitely a grower. The second single is Gabriella, which was a love at first listen kind of song. It is fantastic and has a really fun music video as well. That song feels like "Jolene" for a new generation. The third song on the EP is Gameboy, which is ridiculously catchy and feels closest to the Soft Is Strong sound. Then there is my favourite song on Beautiful Chaos, which is Mean Girls. It is such an anthem! It calls out people who put down others to feel better about themselves while still celebrating women. Finishing off the album is MIA, which is also really catchy, but more mature than some of the other songs in their catalogue. Clearly, the Beautiful Chaos EP comes with an awful lot. Instead of being just a CD in a case, the CD is at the back of an oversize book of photos. There is also a separate booklet inside with interview questions and information about each of the songs on the EP. Just like with Soft Is Strong, there were two different versions of the EP to choose from. Though I wanted both, it was the Beautiful version that I chose based on the concept photos that I had seen.
In addition to the photo book, booklet, and CD, there was an envelope with some extras. It seems that the extras are somewhat random based on where you purchase the EP. There are also different extras included in the Chaotic version. In my version? There were a bunch of KATSEYE themed stickers, a keychain, a Sophia photocard, a Polaroid of the group, and a postcard of Lara. There was also a fold out poster included with the Beautiful Chaos EP. I love that not only is the music on the EP fantastic, but there are all sorts of ways to celebrate the band with all of these fun add-ons that are included.
Do you listen to KATSEYE? Are there any concerts you want to attend in the next little while?
