review: the kissu lip mask from tatcha

Tatcha is a brand that I have heard a lot about over the years, but never tried. Though my sister swears by many of their products, makeup is always more intriguing to me than skin care. This meant that my Sephora gift cards were used on the other side of the store instead. When a loved one gifted me The Kissu Lip Mask, it felt like a long overdue introduction to the brand. Before even talking about the actual lip mask, it is important to discuss the packaging. It is so thoughtful. The product comes in a clear jar with a white lid. Nothing too elaborate or over the top, but what is special about this is the little gold scoop that slides into the lid. There is the gold coloured logo in the center and the scoop slides underneath. This makes it possible to apply the product without dipping your fingers in it. (Something that is not ideal about lip products that come in this kind of container.) I love that the scoop can be stored inside the lid and is not just a separate piece. This has a very thoughtful design.

As for the actual lip mask? Wow. The Kissu Lip Mask from Tatcha is really impressive. The jelly consistency makes application smooth and easy. This is ultra hydrating, doesn't have a strong scent, and feels really comfortable. According to the brand, this can work all day or overnight and is intended to plump, hydrate, and smooth. Though I can't say that I noticed any plumping happening, this does hydrate and smooth. In general, my lips are very dry and I always have to have lip balm nearby. The Kissu Lip Mask is great because it means I do not have to apply a lip balm or similar product as often. This sits on my nightstand so I can apply it before bed or when I am needing a little extra hydration throughout the day. This works really well, but it is $39 CDN according to the Sephora website. There is a good amount of product provided, but the cost is high for a lip mask. (It seems everything is expensive these days, beauty products included.) I am on the fence about whether or not this is something I would purchase for myself in the future, even though it has been an absolute delight to put to use. The Kissu Lip Mask works well, is thoughtfully designed, and really delivers on the hydration. Time will tell if this becomes a must have product for me.
