Sometimes, supermodels run in the family. That is certainly true for the Hadid sisters, Bella and Gigi. Their mother, Yolanda Hadid, is also a former model...and more importantly, used to star on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Recently, Bella stepped out in New York City wearing an outfit that took me back to the 2000s in a very real way. It was a flashback of sorts! Curious about the 00s inspired look? Whether it is a love it or leave it? Lets take a look at what one of the most well-known supermodels in the world has been wearing out and about lately.
What I Love: This is probably the most 00s inspired outfit that I have seen since, well, the 00s! I have vivid memories of those pleated skirts and dizzying sweater patterns. Oh, I remember it all. And maybe not fondly! While 90s fashion still has a special place in my heart (thanks to the extreme shapes, plaid everything, and whimsical designs).....an awful lot of 00s does not. It was over the top and borderline ridiculous at times. From the skinny scarves to wearing multiple belts at one time, 00s fashion certainly was extra. And that is probably the best way to describe this look from Bella Hadid: extra. In terms of what I love? The boots would be okay on their own. The sweater might be okay on its own. But all together? Not so much.
What I Loathe: Is it wrong to say everything? Everything. I loathe everything. Individually, these items may be able to work, but all together, it is an absolute disaster. From the chunky rain books to the taxi inspired purse, the pleated skirt with two different fabrics, the colourful striped sweater, and the chunky hair clip to to it all off...this is just an overwhelming outfit. Nothing stands out because everything is so extreme. It ends up looking messy instead of nostalgic and fun. One of the best things about wearing clothes inspired by another decade is to put a more modern twist on those old must-haves. This particular look fails to elevate the 00s pieces and ends up looking clunky and mismatched as a result.
Overall, I would say this is a leave for me. All of these 00s inspired pieces paired together looks anything but fashion forward and takes me back in the worst possible way! There is definitely a way to reference another decade and have fun with fashion. This just seems like a million different ideas were tossed together and none of it is really cohesive or aesthetically pleasing.
