beauty bookshelf: staying stylish by candace cameron bure

Welcome to beauty bookshelf! This is the first in a series of blog posts dedicated to beauty-related reads. In future, that will include a wide array of fashion, makeup, and lifestyle books. Anything and everything that combines my love of reading with the things I love most is fair game. If you are looking for a fabulous new book for your shelf, beauty room, or coffee table....stay tuned. There are plenty of beauty book reviews on the way. Kicking things off is Staying Stylish: Cultivating a Confident Look, Style & Attitude by Candace Cameron Bure.

Staying Stylish Book Review

It's true. I have a very real obsession with Candace Cameron Bure. (Need proof? I've featured this beloved actress in my love it or leave it? series and have showcased some of her other non-beauty related books here and here.) I don't quite know what it is about her. Perhaps it is the fact that I have been a fan since my childhood, watching endless episodes of Full House. Or maybe it has to do with her joyfulness, kindness, beauty, and talent. She radiates such a positive energy...and it's infectious. You just want to watch her. See her. Be like her. It stands to reason that Candace's book, Staying Stylish: Cultivating a Confident Look, Style & Attitude has stellar reviews and tons of fans.

What exactly is inside the book? It includes lots and lots of pictures, bite sized tips and tricks, and useful information on how to look and feel beautiful...inside and out. Visually, the book is wonderful. The pictures are fun, whimsical, and informative. There are even plenty of red carpet looks featured to really highlight some of the fashion tips Candace is talking about! The book begins with a bit about Candace's relationship with fashion and how that has changed over the years. Then it dives straight into all of the essential information.

The fashion section is broken into smaller segments (tops, dresses, pants, skirts, shoes, etc) which makes it easy to find information quickly. There is also information on outerwear, ways to save money on great style, and revamping an old pair of jeans. I love that this book isn't totally out of touch with what the average woman and fashionista is looking for. There are practical, simple guidelines to help you look and feel your best. I also really enjoy the fact that the book isn't trying to squash your individual sense of style. Rather, it provides information on how to build a practical wardrobe that flatters and has plenty of longevity.

In addition to the fashion related pages there are also sections on how to stay stylish while travelling (this is a section I found particularly interesting since I love to travel), skin care, makeup, hair, healthy snack ideas, effective workout moves, and so much more. This book is really about feeling your absolute best in every aspect of your life. Fashion is just one layer of that! Out of everything, I think my favourite part of the book is the section called "Nourishing Your Spirit." Here you can find suggestions on how to journal regularly, why reading is so important, the importance of self care, ways to manage stress, and how to be grateful in everyday life.

As you can see, this is one beauty-licious book! It focuses on fashion, makeup, fitness, and self care...which are all integral to achieving a beautiful and balanced lifestyle. Candace's writing style is approachable, relatable, and all in all, makes it feel like you're learning from a good friend. If you want a book that will help you look and feel amazing, consider Staying Stylish. It is well worth your time.

Have you read Staying Stylish? What is your favourite beauty-related book?

Editing Note: Despite the fact that Full House is a long-time love of mine, I no longer support Candace Cameron Bure on a personal level, due to her exclusionary beliefs.
