fall makeup look (featuring morphe + lime crime)

Every leaf speaks bliss to me. That quote has always made me smile but this year, it seems even more accurate. I am embracing all things fall! The leaves changing colour, the crisp morning air, oversized sweaters, and of course, autumn colours. Those colours aren't just impacting my current wardrobe. They have also been inspiring a lot of my recent makeup looks. There is something about the warmth that makes me smile. Recently, I dug out a few favourites from my makeup collection (along with a few forgotten favourites) to put together a makeup look that screamed fall. Want to see how it turned out? Take a peek at some of the products used? Here is my latest fall makeup look...

what i've been watching, reading, and listening to (fall edition)

There are many things to love about fall. That includes staying indoors, curling up with a fuzzy blanket, and enjoying lots of entertainment. Whether it is a television show, movie, book, or all adds up to make a perfectly memorable season. In between writing and working, I have been doing my best to make time for entertainment this fall. It is the best possible way to relax and unwind. So on that note! Today's post will be dedicated to a few of the things I've been watching, reading, and listening to lately. There are some older items on this list along with some recent obsessions and even a few new releases. So without further ado, here are some of my recent entertainment picks.

new in: butterfly belt bag + zebra print purse

New purses haven't exactly been on my radar lately. Partly because there hasn't been anywhere to go shopping and partly because there hasn't been anywhere to go in general. The last several months have been unusual, to say the least. Instead of trips to the mall, dinners with friends, seasonal events, and everything in between...things have mostly been quiet and focused. And that means less of a need for things like new accessories. That being said, recently my mom gifted me a couple of practical purses for this new normal we are living in. One was a butterfly belt bag (perfect for hands free trips to the grocery store or for those morning walks) and the other was a small zebra print purse (made from material that was easy to wipe down and disinfect). Who said staying safe meant sacrificing style? These have certainly been welcome additions to my life and my wardrobe. Ready to see them up close? It is time to take a better look at my latest accessories.

miley cyrus midnight sky inspired makeup look

It was love at first listen. Every now and again, a song manages to sweep me away. Suddenly, all of the stresses and strains of the day melt away and I am totally transfixed. That is what happened with the latest Miley Cyrus song, "Midnight Sky." I loved everything about it. The song. The message. The music video. The makeup. It is a true musical masterpiece! Something that stood out to me while watching the bold and colourful music video for this song was the unexpected makeup. The combination of purple and red was unusual in the best possible way. It added to the strong, no apologies vibe that the song offered. The glitter on the eyes was just the icing on the cake! Immediately, I knew that I wanted to recreate the look for myself. It had everything on my must-have list: lots of glitter and a bold lipstick shade. Want to see how it turned out? Find out which products were used? Here is my Miley Cyrus "Midnight Sky" inspired makeup look.

accessories obsession: swarovski ring + enchanted disney necklace

I was supposed to be in Walt Disney World this month. Two weeks from now, my husband and I would've been on our way to sunny Florida for a fabulous vacation and to celebrate the wedding of one of my dear friends. Unfortunately....everything in the world has changed. Who knows when we will be able to take our fabulous Disney vacation? It has been hard to accept the reality that so many of the wonderful things that were planned are either on pause or cancelled altogether. But at least we are healthy at the moment. That is the most important thing! Since our Disney vacation is now a no-go, my parents were kind enough to treat me to some special accessories to keep the Disney magic alive. One is a key necklace from the Enchanted Disney collection and the other is a rose gold ring from Swarovski that isn't really Disney related but makes me feel like a princess. Today, I wanted to show you those pieces. They are absolutely beautiful and have been making me smile.

early fall favourites (books, candles, nails, and makeup)

Sometimes, the little things matter most. That is certainly true these days! It is the small joys in life that make me happiest lately. Especially since the world has changed so much in the last six or seven months. It seems that everything is upside down....but at least there are small comforts. Like the beginning of fall, the return of sweater weather, and a few recent favourites. As you can see from the picture above, lots of things are bringing me comfort at the moment. There are books, decor pieces, scented candles, nail polish strips, and shimmery beauty items. Ready to find out more about these early fall comforts? Here is everything you need to know about these recent favourites.

top five favourite: fall perfumes

Two things I love? Fall and perfume. Now that the weather is getting chillier and the temperatures are starting to drop....there are certain fragrances that have been calling my name more than ever. Ones that are a little warmer and bolder. During the summer months, I tend to use light, fresh, and fruity kind of fragrances but when the fall season hits? It calls for something decidedly different. Though there are many different bottles of perfume in my collection (you can take a peek at my perfume collection here) five of them really stood out. So, here they are. These are my top five favourite fall perfumes.

affordable must-have: essence eyebrow designer brow pencil

Believe it or not, shopping isn't something that has taken up a lot of my time lately. With the world the way it goal is always to stay inside and stay safe as much as possible. That means less time is spent window shopping. Or even picking up necessities. That being said, I was down to the last inch of my previous eyebrow pencil. It was a must-have kind of scenario. So, my husband and I popped out to pick up a few needed items from the drugstore. Including a new brow pencil. I wasn't exactly sure what brand to choose from, since my previous favourite wasn't sold at that particular location. On a whim, I grabbed the Eyebrow Designer Brow Pencil from Essence. Why that product? Why that brow pencil? Quite frankly, it was cheap. The pencil cost less than $3 CDN. If I wasn't able to grab a product that I knew and made sense to choose the cheapest item until I was able to get my hands on those old favourites. Turns out? This is my new favourite brow pencil.

#FOTD: warm glam + beauty favourites

Going out and being social? Not so much. That certainly isn't something I have been doing a lot of in the last six months or so. In fact, I've been inside almost all of the time. Apart from visiting my immediate family and picking up groceries, that is. However, last month my friend had a socially distanced bachelorette party. It was in a backyard, we all stayed away from each other, wore masks except for when we were eating or drinking, and did everything humanly possible to stay safe. Despite all of the precautions, it was still a little unnerving for me. Like I said...leaving the house isn't something I've been doing a whole lot of. But it was a special occasion and it was important for me to be there and to support my friend. Especially since her wedding experience has undergone so much change due to the pandemic. It was a memorable afternoon, for sure. Want to see the makeup look I put together for the event? Here is a warm glam #FOTD featuring some beloved beauty items.

current obsession: dove body wash mousse

It isn't often that a new body wash totally knocks my socks off. Though there are an awful lot that I've tried over the years (from a wide variety of brands)...few body washes are products that I would actually consider must haves. Sure, I enjoy some more than others but there isn't one specific type or brand that has become an essential part of my shopping list. Until now. Fairly recently, Dove released a line of the Body Wash Mousse body washes and they have been a total game changer for me. In fact, I have already repurchased this product! Want to find out more about the Body Wash Mousse? Here is everything you need to know about the latest skin care release from Dove.

Let’s be honest: trends are fun. Each season, there are fresh new trends to try out. This can make it extra tempting to buy new things and stuff your wardrobe full of disposable, trendy items. While trends can be a lot of fun, it is important to have classic items in your closet as well. Those classic pieces will last a whole lot longer than the flavour of the month (or season). Is it time to whip your wardrobe into shape? Don't worry. It isn't so hard. All you need to do is add in some essential pieces and be thoughtful about those trendier purchases. Need a little help? where to find inexpensive bridesmaid dresses - alfabridal

Who said looking great has to drain your bank account? These days, there are so many wonderful and affordable options when it comes to fashion. It didn't used to be this way. In the past, special occasion dresses cost a small fortune. That made attending events like weddings, reunions, and fancy dinner parties somewhat stressful. Was there something hanging in your closet that might work? Would you need to buy something new? The sheer thought of shelling out hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a dress could be incredibly stressful. Thankfully, there are options that deliver the same beautiful styles without emptying your wallet. Take Alfabridal as an example. This bridal website offers a wide array of fashionable dresses for an affordable price.

Have you ever considered shapewear? Or wanted to learn more? Most of us have heard about various types of shapewear over the years. Whether it comes from an A-list celebrity discussing how they snag their sleek look or people are sharing shapewear products on social media....there is no denying that these products have made their way into the mainstream. And I have to admit, the concept is certainly intriguing! There are many reasons to consider adding shapewear to your life. Not only can it help streamline your look but it can also boost your confidence in the process. Personally, different types of shapewear have been on my wish list for a while. Sometimes, there are certain dresses or outfits that would benefit from the thoughtful addition of these items. Not sure where to start or what to look for? There are plenty of options to consider over at FeelinGirl.

2 looks 1 palette: urban decay naked ultraviolet eyeshadow palette

Has the Urban Decay Naked Ultraviolet Eyeshadow Palette been sitting in your online shopping cart? Is it on your wish list? Have you been wondering how it performs? The latest release from Urban Decay has certainly been making waves. Some beauty lovers adore it and others have mixed feelings. Personally, this palette has been on my latest list of loves. Mostly because of the exciting colour story. Essentially, I see the Ultraviolet palette as being split into two halves. The first is all about warm neutrals and the second half is loaded with gorgeous purple shades. In the middle there are two holographic shades to round it all out. With a mixture of matte, shimmer, glitter, and holographic eyeshadows...this eyeshadow palette has a little bit of everything going on. (In case you missed it, be sure to check out my full review of the Urban Decay Naked Ultraviolet Eyeshadow Palette.) With two very different colour stories, it only made sense to create two different makeup looks.

Bridesmaid dresses have been on my mind an awful lot lately. Probably because I will be attending a wedding in the not-so-distant future. Next month, I will actually be a bridesmaid in a small, socially distanced wedding. It will certainly be a unique experience. But at least there will be a beautiful dress in my future! Slowly but surely, weddings and special events are beginning to take place again. Though there will be certain restrictions and lots of safety measures....those milestone moments are something to look forward to. Do you have a special event coming up? A socially distanced wedding? A fancy-dress Zoom call? There are many reasons to wear a gorgeous dress. Even more so these days. Getting glam is a wonderful way to boost your mood and enjoy some much-needed normality. One place that you can find a beautiful bridesmaid dress is on Alfabridal.

looking back: summer highlights and seasonal memories

Somehow, summer is over. Officially. The season definitely seemed to zoom by. Though my mind has been focused on fall lately (the early fall tag is a prime example of that)...a part of me will still be sad to see summer leave. Mostly because this summer was a little unconventional. Normally, there would've been concerts and visits to the CNE. Instead, it was largely spent indoors, attempting to stay as safe as possible. That being said, there were some summer highlights. And since each year, I like to look back at those meaningful seasonal memories, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. So without further ado, here are some of the memories made over the last few months.

Can you believe it? Somehow, the fall season is here to stay. Already, the weather is cooler and everyone is starting to layer up their clothing and bundle up inside as much as possible. There are many reasons to consider a fun and fabulous onesie. They look great, they express tons of personality, and they help to battle against those chilly temperatures. It's a win-win-win situation. Not sure where to find the perfect onesie for the fall and winter season? Take a look at the Alfagoody website. nude by nature lip trio (review + video)

Surprises are not my favourite. I am someone that likes to know what is coming and when. In fact, I am guilty of reading spoilers for television shows and reading movie summaries before heading to a theater. There is comfort in knowing. Despite this, it was especially surprising (in a good way) when my husband came home with a Nude by Nature Lip Trio. He knew that I had been missing some of the simple things in life. Like being able to see friends without social distance, heading to the nearest shopping mall, and seasonal attractions. So, even though he couldn't fix the world....he could bring a smile to my face with some unexpected makeup. On that note! Today's post is all about the Nude by Nature Lip Trio in the shade Dusk. Take a closer look at what was inside, see some swatches, a YouTube video, and find out whether these products wowed.

Sometimes, fashion can be serious. Other times, fashion knows how to make a statement. It can be playful, exciting, and express your personality. If you prefer colourful creations, bold patterns, and comfortable attire at home...then a onesie is likely your best bet. These whimsical styles have a way of making even the gloomiest day feel a little bit brighter. This is something I can personally attest to! Onesies always cheer me up. There are several onesies in my closet that I reach for on days where I just need that extra oomph! The ultra comfy design paired with the oh-so-cute theme makes the onesie an undeniable essential part of sleep and loungewear. Are you looking for some onesie pajamas to add to your wardrobe this season? Then consider checking out the selection from Alfagoody.

does it work?? morgan taylor nail polish (plum tuckered out)

Now that September is mindset is shifting towards darker and deeper colours. Especially when it comes to nail polish. A lot of times, the start of September has me desperately clinging onto the last lingering moments of summer. I would find myself painting my nails a bright pink or neon orange as a way to symbolically prove that summer wasn't over just yet.  Not this year. This year, the summer season seemed a little lackluster thanks to world events. So in a way,  I am looking forward to fall. It will be nice to move away from the summertime associations (and all of the things that were missed) and welcome in something fresh and new instead. Something perfect for fall? A dark plum nail polish from Morgan Taylor. This was my first experience with the brand, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Would it work? Be a total failure? Here is everything you need to know about the Morgan Taylor nail polish in the shade Plum Tuckered Out.

warm + cool makeup look (feat. too faced and kvd vegan beauty)

When it comes to makeup...there are no rules. Or at least there shouldn't be when it comes to colour combinations. For the most part, I tend to separate my looks into warm, cool, or colourful. Rarely do those categories come together. But lately, I have been mixing and matching. For me, that meant reaching for warm eyeshadow shades and cheek products but then finishing it all off with an ultra cool-toned lipstick shade. This was the first time in a while that I felt inspired to incorporate both warm and cool tones into a makeup look. Want to see how it turned out? Find out what products helped pull it all together? Here is a warm and cool makeup look featuring some high end products from Too Faced and Kat Von D.

early autumn tag + the palette tag youtube video

Me? Excited about fall? Okay...maybe just a little. The new season feels like a fresh start and nothing could be more thrilling than that. The first official day of fall is just a few days away. That means before long, the months will be all about sweater weather, warm beverages, and pumpkin scented candles. What could be better than that? To prepare for the beginning of fall, it only makes sense to do a seasonal tag here on the creation of beauty is art. The first is going to include twenty fall themed questions and after that there will be my latest YouTube video. The latter is the Eyeshadow Palette Tag, where you can see some favourites and flops from my makeup collection. Ready to get started and embrace autumn? Here goes...

high end beauty samples (mini reviews)

Testing new product samples can be a lot of fun. But it can also be educational. What better way to find out whether a new beauty item is worth the splurge? If it performs well? If it checks off all the boxes? Luckily, a handful of makeup and skin care samples made their way into my life recently. Those high end beauty samples included: Benefit's Goof Proof Brow Pencil, Shea Moisture's Soothing Body Lotion, and Glam Glow's Supermud Clearing Treatment. Over the last little while, I have been putting these items to the test. Want to find out how they performed? If any of them have been added to my future purchase list? Here are a few mini reviews dedicated to these high end makeup and skin care samples.

review: urban decay (naked ultraviolet eyeshadow palette)

"Have you seen the new Urban Decay palette?" That was the text my friend sent me a few months back. Though I am typically pretty up-to-date with most of new beauty releases, the Urban Decay Naked Ultraviolet Eyeshadow Palette seemed to have eluded me. Luckily, my friend sent me screenshots of the email she had received from the brand. And there it was. The latest Naked palette in all its glory. The moment I laid eyes on it, I was in awe. The colours looked absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, another eyeshadow palette wasn't exactly on my to-buy list. As I have mentioned on here in the last little while, my goal is to use more of what I own instead of always rushing after the latest releases. I decided to live vicariously through my friend, since she was planning to purchase it for herself. Turns out? I wouldn't have to. My mom actually ordered me the palette as an anniversary present. It was such a wonderful surprise. One I have really been appreciating lately. So...if you've been curious about the latest release from Urban Decay, look no further. Here are swatches, a full review of the palette and double-ended brush, and a makeup look using the Urban Decay Naked Ultraviolet eyeshadow palette.

five vampy lipsticks for fall

Fall is right around the corner....though I am struggling to believe it. These days, the seasons seem to be shorter and shorter. It feels like summer just began! Yet somehow, it is September. Perhaps the seasons feel shorter lately because the amount of time we have spent outside has been limited. Though many things are open and some people are choosing to go here, there, and everywhere, the majority of my days are still spent at home. This has certainly warped my sense of time. Plus the fact that the usual markings of the summer season have been put on hold. There were no visits to the CNE, no shopping trips to the mall, and no weekends in Niagara Falls. Though it doesn't feel like a new season is on the way, it is. The fall season means warmer colours and darker makeup. One of the best ways to embrace fall is with a bold and vampy lipstick shade. Here are five of my personal favourite drugstore and high end colours.

2 looks 1 palette (avon oh what fun makeup mega palette)

My last post was all about the Oh What Fun Makeup Mega Palette from Avon. The compact but over loaded palette had an awful lot going on. There were 66 eyeshadows, 5 blushes, 4 lip glosses, and 2 highlights in when I say a lot going on, I really mean it! (In case you missed that review, you can check it out here.) With dozens upon dozens of eyeshadow colours to choose from, it only made sense to do a 2 looks 1 palette post. The Mega Palette itself was separated into multiple layers. The top layer had neutral eyeshadow shades and the second layer had colourful eyeshadows. Then the last level contained all of the cheek and lip products. So, for this 2 looks 1 palette post, there will be one neutral makeup look and one more colourful creation. Ready to see how they turned out? Here goes...

review: avon oh what fun makeup mega palette

Who doesn't love an all-in-one beauty item? Multi-product palettes are especially useful for travel (not that I have any immediate travel plans...but a girl can dream) and can also save space in your beauty area (which is always a good thing). Quite a while ago, the Oh What Fun Mega Makeup Palette from Avon was given to me as a gift. Though I had been meaning to put it to good use, the pandemic put a crimp in my makeup usage for a little while. These days, I have established a daily routine and that routine involves makeup! So, I finally had the opportunity to see how the Oh What Fun palette holds up. There is an awful lot to discuss here, so let's get started. Here is everything you need to know about this compact but jam-packed product.

make-up removing cloths vs the makeup eraser

Dupes are all too common in the makeup industry. In fact, there are entire companies whose sole purpose is to replicate and knock off high-end releases. It seems that the need to dupe pricier items doesn't begin and end with eyeshadows and highlights. Even successful makeup tools are being replicated and released. That is certainly true for The Vintage Cosmetics Company Make-Up Removing Cloths. The concept was eerily similar to the popular The Makeup Eraser, which is sold at Sephora and Ulta. Only there were three cloths instead of one for a cheaper price than the original eraser version. How did they perform? And which one worked better? Here is everything you need to know about these products.

love it or leave it? sarah jessica parker

The world of fashion has certainly changed in recent months. Large shows have been cancelled or turned into virtual viewing experiences. New lines and releases are scarce. Oh, and masks have become an essential part of our day-to-day lives. Though masks have a practical use...they can also be stylish and fashion-forward. Celebrities and fashion lovers alike have started to match their face masks to their outfits. It is yet another way to accessorize! Which brings me to my latest love it or leave it? post. This time it is all about the fashion icon, Sarah Jessica Parker. She spent time in her SJP Collection Store in New York City not long ago....wearing a floral dress and printed face mask. Is this look a love? Or does it totally fall flat? It is time to take a closer look at Sarah Jessica Parker's late summer florals.

first impressions: burt's bees all aflutter multi-benefit mascara

Another day another Burt's Bees review. This is the last one. At least for a while. Since my history with the brand has been less than stellar (with every single product I've tried from Burt's Bees being underwhelming at best) chances are low that I will go out of my way to purchase something else. That being is time to do a first impressions review of one last item. It is the Burt's Bees All Aflutter Multi-Benefit Mascara. Say that ten times fast! Though the name is a bit of a mouthful, it comes with some pretty impressive claims. Would it live up to them? Could it be that finally a Burt's Bees product would impress? It is time to take a closer look at the mascara and find out if it is worth adding to your drugstore shopping cart.

fashion inspiration: end of summer style

How is it already the end of August? Somehow, time has been passing even faster than it usually does. It's hard to believe there are only a few weeks left until the official end of summer. In a different year, these last few weeks would be jam-packed with fun seasonal events. There would be concerts, trips to the CNE, and backyard barbecues with friends and family. Not this year. Everything in 2020 has either been paused or muted. Instead of allowing that to make me sad...I've decided to celebrate all things summer. While it may not include cotton candy and rollercoasters, it can include fashion. Lately, my focus has been on putting together lots of seasonally inspired ensembles. Both in real life and from the comfort of my computer. From warm golden makeup to dainty layered accessories and colourful sundresses, there are so many ways to embrace and enjoy the last days of summer. Here is one seasonal outfit to brighten your day.

current skin care favourites (summer 2020)

Ahh, skin care. This is one area of my beauty routine that has undergone a serious transformation in the last several months. Though taking better care of my skin was always a generic goal on my New Years Resolution list...rarely did it actually happen. At best, it would be something that happened for a few days in a row and then it would be back to normal. These days? That isn't the case. I have a daily routine as well as an every few days kind of routine. Since my skin care has been a top priority for the last while, it only made sense to do a current favourites: skin care edition. These are the products that have been on my must-have list this season. Some are more expensive than others but they all work well to help me achieve my skin care goals. Here is a closer look at a few of the products making me smile.

burt's bees watermelon lip balm (review)

When it comes to Burt's Bees....this isn't a brand that is overly familiar to me. In the past, I've tried exactly two products. One was a liquid lipstick that was ultra sticky and did not dry down (read that review here) and the other was an eye mask that failed to live up to the claims (check out that review here if you missed it). Needless to say, the brand hasn't become an instant favourite. Despite hearing so many wonderful things about Burt's Bees, there still hasn't been a product that impressed me. I hoped that the Watermelon Moisturizing Lip Balm would change all that. Ever since Nivea changed their formula - which I am still unhappy about - I have been on the hunt for my new must-have balm. That has meant trying out an awful lot of products. Some have been better than others but the search continues for my holy grail item. So, how did this moisturizing lip balm perform? Here is everything you need to know about this drugstore release.

2 looks 1 palette (avon nesting beauty color palette)

Avon has some hits and some misses. Some products have been in my collection time and time again (like the Always on Point liner and their Perfect Brow Kit) but others have fallen flat. When it comes to their palettes and eyeshadow releases, these have been inconsistent. There have been items that are boldly pigmented and wonderful for travel...and others that are just so-so. Today is all about the Avon Nesting Beauty Color Palette. It is a two-tiered palette with eyeshadow shades, cheek products, and lipsticks. This is compact and has an impressive variety of product...but is it any good? Keep reading for a mini review, a video with swatches, and of course, two different makeup looks.

inspired by: chromatica + lady gaga inspired style for real life

When it comes to music...women are dominating. Especially in the pop genre. There have been recent releases from Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and even Lady Gaga. The latter is back in an undeniable way. Her first week sales were massive and the second single from the album (a duet with another woman of pop, Ariana Grande) debuted at number one. There is no denying it. This era of Lady Gaga is a smashing success. Not only this the music amazing but so is the style and overall concept. I love the 90s, space alien, drag queen inspired, over the top outfits, accessories, makeup, and hair. Everything makes a statement. Which totally sums up Lady Gaga's aesthetic. And is one of the many reasons that she is such an enduring star. Her image is always completely out there. You never quite know what you're going to get. One red carpet appearance might have her sporting something dramatic and alien-esque and the next might show her in a floppy hat and oversized blazer. She is always keeping fans on their toes. So, today this post is dedicated to all things Chromatica.

neutral + neon makeup look inspired by bailey sarian

When it comes to beauty gurus....there are many on my subscription list. Probably far too many. Needless to say, finding someone new to watch wasn't high up on my priority list. So when a friend of mine suggested watching Bailey Sarian, I wasn't eager to hit the play button. Until she shared what made this YouTuber unique. Not only does she create gorgeous makeup looks but she also talks about mysteries and true crime. As someone who has watched every single episode of Forensic Files (it is an addiction, for real) this was definitely up my alley. I loved the creativity involved. When that same friend sent me screenshots of a gorgeous neon-inspired makeup look from Bailey, this was immediately something I wanted to try for myself. Could I re-create it? Would it look similar at all? Here is my attempt at this neutral and neon makeup look.

rank + review: jaclyn hill makeup products

Jaclyn Hill is no stranger to controversy. Many of her beauty releases have been riddled with issues. (Anyone remember the whole fuzzy lipstick fiasco?) Despite that...there are four Jaclyn Hill related products in my makeup collection. Three are collaborations with Morphe and one is a collaboration with Becca. Though I have been curious about Jaclyn's own line, there hasn't been anything that seemed like a must-have. Maybe one day! Until then, my focus is on using and enjoying the Jaclyn Hill makeup already in my possession. Maybe you've been wondering what these releases are actually like. Or need the inspiration to use something in your current makeup collection. At any is time to take a closer look at these ultra popular Jaclyn Hill releases. Here they are, ranked and reviewed.

why i reordered the emily edit (the needs) palette

There are some makeup items in my collection that get used more than others. My most used? The Needs palette from The Emily Edit collection. For those of you who missed the initial launch, Emily Eddington aka Emily Noel on YouTube teamed up with Revolution at the end of 2018. There were two items in the collaboration: The Needs palette and The Wants palette. The Needs was all about those everyday essentials where The Wants palette was loaded with lots of colourful eyeshadows. (Take a peek at that palette and a full review here.) All in all, it was a fabulous selection of products. Ones that I continue to go back to time and time again. Though I have not been buying new makeup products lately and been dedicated to using more of what is in my was time for a re-stock. As I mentioned, my original The Needs palette has been around since 2018 and I have used it almost every single day. So, I went on the Revolution Makeup website and ordered two more palettes. They were super affordable and on sale as well, so with shipping, both palettes cost a mere $25 CDN.

shop my stash: abh x alyssa edwards palette

What is old is new again. At least when it comes to my makeup collection. Normally, this time of year is spent splurging on shiny new items from Sephora or adding exciting releases from the drugstore to my beauty room. These days? I am doing everything in my power to cut back. To step back from the lure of spending and focus on enjoying more of what I have. This is something I am working on in every aspect of my life. What caused this shift? For a few months, I was at home. All the time. I rarely left the house except to buy groceries. COVID-19 changed everything in an instant. There were no more trips to the shopping mall or cute outfits to buy for special events. There weren't any concerts to attend or dinners with friends to enjoy. It made me re-prioritize my spending....but it also made me realize how blessed I am to have so many wonderful things.

My home has shelves full of books. Drawers full of eyeshadow palettes. Movies, DVD sets, crafting supplies, and notebooks. I am so lucky. And yet, in the past, I have always been looking for more, more, more. This isn't to say I will never buy anything new again. More that I am trying to be thoughtful. I am trying to really use and enjoy the incredible things I am grateful to have. Which is why you will see some different kinds of posts on here. (You may have already noticed this shift!) Yes, there will still be lots of reviews but there will also be shop my stash posts, revisited reviews, #FOTD style posts, and so on. My goal is to appreciate every single item in my current makeup collection. On that note! Here is an updated review and a makeup look featuring the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Alyssa Edwards eyeshadow palette.

review: china glaze nail polish (VII)

China Glaze and I have had a bit of a rocky relationship. In the past, there were nail polishes from the brand that really impressed me. Then this past fall, I purchased a neon yellow shade that looked beautiful in the bottle but was without a doubt, the worst nail polish I had ever used. By a country mile. It took more than fifteen coats to build up the colour and it chipped the very next day. (You can read all about that experience here.) Despite that...the shade VII looked absolutely beautiful. The rich plum-maroon shade was enchanting, dramatic, and right up my alley. I had to try it. Did it work? Or was it another disappointment? Here is everything you need to know about this China Glaze nail polish.

revisiting cover girl trunaked palettes

Cover Girl and I have history. This was one of the first (if not the first) makeup brands I ever tried. Over the years, there have been an awful lot of reviews on the creation of beauty is art. featuring items from this drugstore company. Why? Price point and quality. In the early days, it was because Cover Girl was a recognizable brand and my bank account was limited. As time went on, it had to do with the overall quality of products. They have continued to elevate their game. From my all-time favourite mascara, The Super Sizer to their TruNaked eyeshadow palettes...there is a lot to love. Speaking of those TruNaked palettes! Lately, I have been focused on using the makeup currently in my collection. That means less buying and more enjoying. Which is exactly what I have been doing with a handful of Cover Girl eyeshadow sets. Today, I wanted to do updated reviews of some of the TruNaked palettes and do a look or two with a few of my favourites.

paris hilton beauty sponge + holder review (and cleaning + care tips)

Did my collection need another beauty sponge? No. Has that ever stopped me before? Again, no. At the moment, there are beauty sponges of every imaginable size and shape sitting in my beauty room. These tools can make the application of both cream and powder products easier - and give your skin that airbrushed flawless finish. For a long time, I struggled with using beauty sponges. It took a while to get the technique down pat but once I did? It made a huge difference. That being said, a lot of the time, brushes are my go-to. But when I want to spend a little extra time on my makeup? Do everything I can to make sure it looks picture perfect? Those beauty sponges are a real asset. More recently, the Paris Hilton Cosmetics Beauty Sponge & Holder was added to my routine. Despite the many sponges in my collection...I had been without a holder for far too long. Given the affordable price point (and the fact that I continue to be a fan of Paris Hilton) this seemed like the best option. How does it work? And how can you clean and care for your own beauty sponges? Keep reading to find out.

mickey and minnie charmed aroma candles (review + reveal)

It is no secret. I am a Disney fanatic. So many of my happiest memories involve Disney in one way or another. From seeing a movie for the first time when I was a kid (it was The Little Mermaid, for the record) to my Cinderella themed wedding to Disney trips, movie nights, and decades of love, hope, and happiness...Disney is a part of me. Which is why the release of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse candles from Charmed Aroma was so exciting. Lucky for me, my mom is an ever bigger Disney fanatic than I am. She was ready to buy those candles the second they were released! And extra lucky for me, she gifted me a pair of them. Want to find out how the candles look? Smell? What was inside? Here is everything you need to know....

inspired by: britney spears (mood ring)

Lately, music has really been inspiring my days. Especially the powerhouses of pop. Take Britney Spears as a prime example. This is one musician that has been a part of my life for decades. (And one that has been featured on my blog over and over again.) Her music always manages to inspire and lift me up. More recently, she officially released a song that was initially an international bonus track on her last album, Glory. It quickly went to number one on the iTunes charts and has racked up nearly a million streams on YouTube. Quite frankly...the song is incredible. It also inspired my post for today. It got me thinking about actual mood rings. These nostalgic pieces of jewellery have a unique and undeniable place in the fashion and beauty world. So, today I wanted to take a look back at this icon jewellery design and highlight a handful of mood ring inspired items.
