review: the grinch face and eyeshadow palette (taste beauty)

I have many weaknesses. Around the holiday season? It is The Grinch. I have a little Grinch themed village, a Grinch tree topper, mini inflatable, blow molds, and all sorts of other decor items. I love everything about The Grinch. The book, the cartoon, the live action version, and the more recent animated film. There is something so beautiful about the story. It is essentially about opening your heart to others and finding the true spirit of the season. If only more people on this planet were willing to learn from The Grinch, especially his ability to grow and change. The messages in holiday movies are meaningful...so it is hard to control myself around Christmas themed makeup items. I like to use them throughout the year so I can enjoy that Christmas feeling month after month. Recently, there was a massive Grinch palette at Winners for $12.99 CDN, and despite it being completely impractical to store, it was added to my cart without much thought. Oops. Find out how it performs...

This is not my first time adding a Grinch themed eyeshadow palette to my makeup collection. Last year, there was a mini palette from Revolution that featured all sorts of beautiful purple and green eyeshadows - and incredible fuzzy green packaging. This time around, the Grinch themed release is from Taste Beauty. This is a brand that always seems to have cute themed items available. In the past, I have tried Care Bears, Minnie Mouse, and SpongeBob SquarePants themed products. However, while the packaging is usually cute, the quality of the actual products can vary greatly. For example, the Minnie Mouse themed palette is one that I use often. It has an ultra pigmented black shadow that I love. On the other hand, some of the more colourful releases are less consistent. There was some uncertainty about how The Grinch Face and Eyeshadow Palette would compare. When it comes to the packaging, this is beautiful. It has a beautiful soft pink colour with The Grinch on the outside and inside. The red hat on the front of the palette has sparkly red glitter all over it and there is a large mirror inside the palette. The eyeshadow, blush, and highlights all have a Grinch themed name and there are fun little nods to the cartoon all over. (Including a picture of Who Hash and a Grinch hand on the back.) The theme and packaging is fabulous. That being said, this palette is massive. It is four times the size of most eyeshadow palettes in my collection. Part of me loves how elaborate and over the top this is while part of me wishes this was a little more compact so it could be stored a little easier.

There are all sorts of Christmas appropriate colours included in The Grinch Face and Eyeshadow Palette. In total, there are eighteen eyeshadows in an assortment of wearable colours. There are silvers, browns, golds, reds, and greens. There are also two highlighters and two blush shades. The highlights are impressive. The formula is creamy, buildable, and there is a pink and white highlight available. As for the blushes, these are buildable and come in fun colours. The first is an orange-red and the other is a berry pink. I love blush shades in all colours, so it was nice to have some slightly different offerings in this palette. When it comes to the eyeshadows, there are some really fantastic ones in this palette and some that are a little lackluster. For example, Santy Claus, Grinchmas, Monster, Vile One, and several others are smooth and really well pigmented. Then there are others that do not impress in the same way, like Cindy-Lou and Who Hash. Those particular eyeshadows are more like lightly pigmented toppers. Thankfully, there is more right than wrong when it comes to this Grinch themed release from Taste Beauty.

The makeup look shown above focuses on the matte green shade, Grinchmas and there is a bit of the gold shimmer, Merry Merry applied to the inner corner. The light brown shade, Who-Ville, and medium brown shade, Max, were used to create a little contrast to that Grinchy green colour. To finish it all off, some of the shimmery white shade, Tinsel, was added to the inner corner. All in all, this is a fun seasonal release. Is it perfect? No, but it is wonderful all the same. The theme is well done, the colour story is suited to this time of year, the cheek products wow, and there are some really impressive eyeshadow shades.
