cancelling a streaming service + what i watched

There are too many streaming services. And far too many in my own household! Being honest, I have always loved watching television shows and movies. When my husband and I first moved into our apartment, we looked into cable television, but it was way too expensive. It was cheaper to have a couple of different streaming services instead. We started with Netflix and branched out into some different offerings over time. Disney+, Paramount+, Hayu, Stackd, Amazon Prime, and Crave. Eesh! With so many streaming services in our home, it was time to cut back, so Stackd went, and most recently, so did Crave. In the final days before the cancellation, my focus was on watching as much on my list as possible. (I have a bad habit of adding things to my list but not watching half it.) So, I thought it might be fun to share some of the last things that I watched on Crave.

Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar. This is without a doubt one of the best movies that I have seen in ages. It is so camp, so ridiculous, and so wildly over the top. It is kooky and colourful. This is a movie that is on my list to purchase, because it was definitely my kind of humour. The cast was impressive, the music was amazing, and it was just a delight from start to finish.

Tiny Shoulders. If there is a Barbie documentary, it will be on my list 100% of the time. (In fact, as I type this post, I am watching the Black Barbie documentary that was recently added to Netflix. It is a must watch!) Tiny Shoulders looked at the culture surrounding Barbie and the impacts on society ahead of the launch that would include more diverse body types. There were interviews with Roxane Gay and Gloria Steinem that added so much to the documentary. It was really well done.

Call Jane. Another movie on my list was Call Jane. It focuses on abortion rights in America before Roe v. Wade. The movie followed the story of a woman who becomes involved with a group of abortion activists. This group does everything possible to make sure as many women as possible have autonomy over their bodies. The movie was well done and had a solid cast. However, it was a chilling watch knowing how much regression has taken place in recent years. It is more relevant than ever.

Christmas on Windmill Way. I watch a lot of Christmas movies all year round. There were several on Crave that I did my best to watch recently, including some that had to do with puppies, a wedding, and saving a drive-in. The one that stood out most was Christmas on Windmill Way, though I confess, that it does not stand out for the best reasons. I chose this one because it had Chad Michael Murray. But oof...it was a rough watch. I say this as a fan of all Hallmark/Hallmark-esque holiday movies. Some of the acting was straight up terrible and the sets looked cold and cheap. All in all, not the best holiday film.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Movies. For some reason, Crave more recently added a handful of Mary-Kate and Ashley movies to their streaming service. I have been a fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley for as long as I can remember (literally) because I grew up obsessed with Full House. At my slumber parties as a child, there was always a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie fresh from Blockbuster. Over the years, I have purchased all kinds of Mary-Kate and Ashley memorabilia and movies. Some on VHS and some on DVD. One of my favourites has always been How The West Was Fun. I was able to re-watch that on Crave and it was a delight! I had it on VHS as a child, but it has gone missing over the years. It was really nice to be able to watch it again.

Needless to say, I made the most of Crave in the last remaining days. With so many streaming services available now (and the prices of each of those services continuing to increase) it is likely that some will come and some will go. At least I will enjoy!

What streaming services do you have? Have you watched anything good lately?

  2. Oh this is SO true. I cancelled a bunch as I found I didn't watch them enough. Now I have only Prime as I do not just use the streaming service and MAX/HBO Go.

Thank you, I like this outfit too <3 Perfect for summer.

You're absolutely right, there are so many streaming services and I hate that :D You have to pay so much to see everything. I have Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+ and RTL+ in my tv contract from Telekom. Sometimes I have Paramount+ or something for a month.

Did you hear my song from June? I love it :D https://www.yasminarosawoelkchen.de/2024/07/ohrwurm-juni.html

    1. It can be so difficult when you want to watch one show on one streaming service and another show on a different streaming service. Next thing you know, you have a ton of services you don't really need!

  5. Can you believe I haven't got any streaming services at all? I simply lack the time to watch much television, so it would just be a waste of money for me.
With so many streaming services, I do understand your need to cut down. Well done on squeezing in those last things on your list! xxx

    1. I am impressed! To be honest, I watch far too much TV, so it is very impressive to me that you don't watch much at all.
