does it work?? (the color workshop beaming glow palette)

Sometimes you go into a makeup purchase with great expectations. Other times, it has more to do with curiosity than anything else. When it comes to the Beaming Glow set from The Color Workshop, the latter was a far more accurate scenario. Several years ago, I was gifted a set of products from the brand around the holiday season. They were....not good. I distinctly remember glitter overlays and dry eyeliner pencils. So why oh why would I take another chance on The Color Workshop? That purple toned highlight in the top row. It looked gorgeous and I needed to know how it performed. The affordable price didn't hurt either. This retailed for about $7 CDN. Does it work? Was this highlight set worth the beauty gamble? Here is everything you need to know about the Beaming Glow Palette.

Right off the bat, it is pretty obvious why this particular highlighting palette has shelf appeal. There is a lot of shimmer and a lovely assortment of colours to choose from. That unexpected pop of purple is also important. It immediately draws you in and makes you wonder. Could it actually be good? Are the highlights really that shimmery? Then your eyes trail long the low-cost price and before you know it, the Beaming Glow highlighting set has been added to your cart. Yes, one thing is clear: this item is intriguing. On the top row is a pink toned highlight, a purple highlight, a deep bronze highlight, and a champagne coloured highlight. Then along the bottom row, there is a holographic blue shade, a light gold, a peachy metallic, and a light gold shimmer. In terms of variety, there is an impressive amount. From the everyday basics to unexpected additions...there is a lot to work with here. Below are swatches to give you a better idea of the pigmentation level and the shades themselves.

Going into this, I had little to no expectations. It was a beauty gamble and luckily, this beauty gamble paid off. Big time. One look at the swatches above shows how shockingly pigmented these highlights are. Though there are varying degrees of pigmentation (some behave more like traditional shimmers while some are more soft and glitter based) each and every highlight in the Beaming Glow set performs well. The purple that caught my eye initially is actually fairly light and easy to wear. It has a nice purple shimmer but isn't too dramatic or over the top. Out of all the shades, my personal favourites are those warm bronze colours. The deepest one can actually be worn as a highlight and blush shade in one for me. (However, it would work well as a stand alone highlight for deeper skin tones.) There is so much shimmer and shine to be had from this palette and it was absolutely worth that ultra affordable price tag.

Ready to see this highlighting palette in action? Below is a recent makeup look I created using the deepest bronze highlight as a blush and the lightest gold highlight on the tops of the cheeks. It created a gorgeous glowing finish that I absolutely adore.

Rating: 4 / 5

This was definitely a successful drugstore purchase. These highlighting shades had a creamy texture and performed well. Plus, there was a wonderful variety of shades included in the set. All in all, this was a complete success. The only reason The Color Workshop Beaming Glow set didn't get a 5/5 rating from me was because of the packaging. Though cute, it came in basic (and somewhat cheap) plastic. The quality of the products themselves? Incredible. This was definitely worth the beauty risk.

Have you tried anything from The Color Workshop? What is your favourite highlighting product?
