love it or leave it? cate blanchett

Cate Blanchett has had no shortage of red carpet masterpieces. From sleek gowns to boldly embellished pieces, she consistently lands on the top of the best dressed list. Her confidence is always apparent - and her chic style is enviable. Recently, Cate stepped out at the Berlin Film Festival to promote the new series, Stateless. This red carpet look was a far cry from her traditional A-list ensembles. Did the fashion risk pay off? It's time to find out (and sound off) in the latest installment of love it or leave it? Here goes....

What I Love: There is quite a bit that I enjoy here. Most importantly, I love that Cate took a fashion risk and wore something totally different to her usual red carpet style. Any time someone takes a style risk or does something different - it is exciting. I also really love the shape of this outfit. The relaxed fit looks chic and sophisticated. Additionally, the black turtleneck, sleeve, oversize pocket, and pointed shoe are all thoughtful additions that work well. 

What I Loathe: Oh boy. While the overall design of this outfit is fabulous, it is difficult to get past the colours. They are....a lot. In my personal opinion, the colours chosen for this look are straight out of 1973. And not in a good way. The colour choice absolutely cheapens the look and makes that oversize silhouette appear clownish and cartoonish instead of chic fashion forward. The colours completely remove any elegance and sophistication the garment may have. I have to say, I loathe the colours used in this red carpet ensemble.

Overall, while I enjoy the actual design, I detest the colour choice. It makes the garment look cheap and silly instead of elegant and fabulous. For me, this is a leave.
