review + makeup look (juicy couture eyeshadow palette)

It has been a while. A long while, in fact. The Shady Eye Shadow & Highlighter Palette from Juicy Couture has been in my makeup collection for ages now (my YouTube video dedicated to the palette can be seen here) but it is only recently that I've been refocused on the glitzy and glittery set. During the summer months, my main focus was on warm eyeshadow shades and ultra bronzey palettes. Now that fall is here? I seem to be longing for shimmer, glitter, and exciting pops of colour. Which has made the Juicy Palette an ideal choice. Keep reading to take a peek inside the palette, find out how it performs, and check out a recent look made using this oh-so-sparkly set.

Juicy Couture: The Shady Eye Shadow & Highlighter Palette (Review)

When it comes to packaging, there isn't much to excite or disappoint. It is a fairly standard cardboard package with a magnetic closure and a mirror inside. It has a lovely golden finish on the lower half of the palette (which is hard to photograph but looks lovely in person) and a nice colour scheme overall. So while this is pretty basic, it looks nice and holds the products well. The size of the palette, on the other hand, is wonderful. It isn't too big or too small. That makes it a nice mid-sized palette that is sturdy enough to toss into your purse or take with you when you travel.

As you can see from the photo above, this palette does not shy away from colour, shimmer, and glitter. If you are looking to mix it up - or take a pause from neutrals - this is a fabulous way to do just that. It includes a variety of shades, with some warm (like Crimson Daydream in the top right corner and Red Hot Rebel on the bottom row, second from the right), some bright (like that bright blue, Dramatique, or that bright pink on the bottom row, Pretty Hustle), and some stand alone glitters (like Moonlit Whimsy, the first shade in the palette or Oui Glam, which is a lovely golden glitter). That being said, if you don't like shimmer and glitter....this is not the product for you.

Though you can create wearable looks using many of the shadow shades, it certainly won't be an understated or neutral finished look. Whether or not you love this set will depend entirely on your eyeshadow preferences - and of course, your mood! There are a lot of really beautiful shades in here. And many that I reach for over and over again. However, there are some inconsistencies to be aware of as well. Some of these Juicy Couture shadows are richly pigmented and others are merely glitter overlays. There is also a considerable amount of fallout that happens when applying the eyeshadows, so be sure to use a primer or do your eye look first.

Now for the highlight shade (Oui Glow) and blush shade (Oui Too Pink). These two items totally sum up the Juicy Couture aesthetic to me: fun, glittery, and over the top in the best possible way. These are certainly standout products in this particular palette. First of all, the highlight is everything. If you want something intensely glittery and bold, this will be your new favourite. It is so sparkly! I admit that I am a bit obsessed. It isn't something I reach for all the time (simply because it is so sparkly) but certain looks can definitely benefit from that extra pop. The blush shade next to it is also really gorgeous but is intensely pigmented so remember that a little goes a long way. A light tap of your brush will be more than enough to create a bold blush look.

Juicy Couture Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette (Makeup Look)

To create the look, pictured above, I made good use of the different colours in the palette. To start: I applied Red Hot Rebel through the crease and blended upwards. Then it was Crimson Daydream on the outer portion of the eye, Riot Starter in the centre, and Pretty Hustle on the inner part of the lid. The inner corner was made extra sparkly with the help of Halfway Angel. Underneath the eye was Crimson Daydream and Pretty Hustle. On the cheeks, I used the blush Oui Too Pink and then added on a healthy amount of the glitter highlight, Oui Glow. To finish off the look, it was a bit of liquid liner, a coat of mascara, and a brown liquid lipstick. Voila! A fairly simple (but still ultra dramatic) makeup look. This was definitely a lot of fun to put together...and broke me out of my bronzey-summer makeup rut.

Overall, I am still a really big fan of this eyeshadow palette. It is bold, fun, glittery, and totally different to a lot of other palettes on the market. If you want to create a look that is a little colourful (or sparkly) - this is one set to consider.

Have you tried this palette? Are you a fan of Juicy Couture products?
