current obsession: pat mcgrath (mini matte trance lipstick trio)
There are certain names in the makeup and beauty industry that everyone knows. Pat McGrath is one of them. Her artistic nature and creative eye has helped this makeup artist (and creator of the cosmetics line, Pat McGrath Labs) a true icon. No wonder Allure magazine dubbed her "an invaluable asset to the beauty world." Recently, the Sephora nearest to me started carrying some items from her makeup line. Cue excitement. Though there were a couple of different options, I added the LUST: Mini MatteTrance Lipstick Trio in Skin Show to my collection.
Yes, there is something to be said for a bold neutral. Especially when it comes to lipstick shades. Though I admittedly love bright and over the top lipstick colours every now and again (like this metallic purple and an electric blue)...you can never really go wrong with a warm neutral colour. That was the main reason I chose the Skin Show trio rather than the Color Blitz set that Sephora also had available. Plus the fact that there are already loads of over-the-top colourful lipsticks in my makeup collection. What I really wanted was something easy to wear that still made a statement.
As you can see from the picture and swatches above, these shades are seriously stunning. The first is Omi (a mid-toned rose shade), 1995 (a warm nude), and Flesh 3 (a rose brown). At first glance, I was more intrigued by Flesh 3. It was a shade I didn't have in my collection. In fact, it was totally different from anything I had! I love how warm it is and that even though it's a neutral, it makes a serious statement. Despite the fact that I was initially obsessing over Flesh 3, my most worn shade is 1995. I feel like it goes with every outfit and every eye look. In my opinion, it is the ultimate nude lipstick shade.
Though these lipsticks are mini in size, there is a fair amount of product. I love the lip detail on the tube as well. The formula is creamy, smooth, and richly pigmented. Even though these are matte in finish, they don't feel drying or uncomfortable like a lot of other matte lipsticks on the market. Needless to say, I am completely and totally obsessed with these! The quality is incredible and the shades are fabulous. The only thing that I didn't love was the packaging these came in. There were tons of gold sequins inside a plastic bag. Sure, it looked cute, but boy did it make a mess. Despite the fact that I was super careful opening up the bag...sequins got absolutely everywhere. So if you decide to pick up one of these sets from Sephora, be careful when you open it up.
Want to see Flesh 3 in action? Here is a makeup look that I created using the shade. Be sure to let me know what you think of it - and which lipstick shade you like best.
Sometimes, all you need to perk up your makeup collection is a little lipstick. Though there are an awful lot of shades that I love...these mini lippies from Pat McGrath have seriously won me over. The quality is fabulous, they are wonderful for travel, and they look incredible. I definitely plan to keep my eye out for other products from this brand in future.
Have you tried anything from Pat McGrath? What do you think of these shades?
