Cool toned eyeshadows make my heart happy. Even though I adore warm colours (especially once the summer season rolls around) it is cool toned beauty products that have been really making me smile. That is the reason the NYX Machinist Shadow Palette in Steam has been a standout recently. There are so many cool colours to choose from. Pun intended! Ready to take a look inside? When this collection was initially released, there were three different versions. Steam seems to be the most interesting of the three, with a selection of cool toned colours in a variety of finishes. Though a lot of cool eyeshadow palettes stick to more neutral colours, the Steam Shadow Palette has some colourful alternatives, such as the blue, purple, and pink shadows seen above. I love that it is possible to create something cool and grey or a little more vibrant. Unfortunately, these eyeshadows do not have names (a failed opportunity for a themed release) but there are numbers printed on the back. Some of my favourite eyeshadows in this palette are 4, 8, and 11. I used all of those to create this recent #FOTD. Take a look....
To start, 8 was applied through the crease to create a bit of shape. I have a weakness for taupe eyeshadows, so it was a must. That was then blended out with a bit of 12 to soften the colour and 5 (matte white) was used to brighten the inner corner. 11 was applied all over the lid and then a bit of 4 was added to the inner third of the eyelid for a bit more shimmer. As for the rest of the makeup look, cheek products were minimal, and the Team Jacob Lip Oil from the Twilight x ColourPop collection was used on the lips. (I realize that I have been using that lip oil a lot lately, but I am obsessed with the cool muted colour it delivers. It's easily the best product from that collection.) Sometimes, a smokey, cool-toned makeup look just feels right.
