shea moisture manuka honey and yogurt treatment (review)

Time for a little honesty. My hair is a disaster. At this point, it has been a year and a half since my last haircut. Due to COVID-19 shut downs and restrictions where I live...it just hasn't been possible. Even during brief periods of time when salons opened back up, it did not feel comfortable or safe for me to have another person so close. Especially before vaccinations were an option. Currently, I have my first dose of the vaccine and I am anxiously waiting for my second dose. Fingers crossed it will be accessible to me before the end of the summer. In the meantime? My hair needs some serious TLC. I don't plan to visit a salon until I am fully vaccinated. So that means lots and nourishing hair care products. Like this treatment from Shea Moisture

Now, this particular product has a doozy of a name. It is the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate & Repair Protein-Strong Treatment. Try saying that three times fast! Essentially, it is a deep conditioner that is meant to strengthen the hair, combat breakage and split ends, and leave hair looking healthier. This was definitely a product that my hair was in need of. Since it has been such a long time between haircuts....and since almost all of my time is spent inside my home....my hair just hasn't been looking or feeling the best. It is heavy, overgrown, and ridiculously thick. I've been trying to use leave-in conditioners to give it a little extra boost, but it needed something more. Thankfully, there was the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate & Repair Protein-Strong Treatment to help out my hair a little.

So...how does it work? The product is applied from the root of the hair to the ends, is left on for 10-15 minutes, and then is rinsed off. Pretty easy to use overall. It smells really nice as well. Nothing too strong or overwhelming. Just pleasant! As for whether or not it works? So far so good. My hair felt a million times better after using the treatment. It was softer, smoother, and my wavy hair looked a lot healthier. Though my hair still has a long way to go, this was a great starting off point. I plan to continue to use the deep conditioner until I run out. At that point, I will reassess whether or not to purchase a full-sized bottle. Based on the prices online, this would be pretty affordable, and could cost less than $15 CDN.

Currently, I am very happy with the results. Like I said...my hair needs an awful lot of love these days. The Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate & Repair Protein-Strong Treatment is the first step towards healthier and better looking locks. Fingers crossed this continues to work well and repair my overgrown pandemic hair.

How have you been keeping your hair healthy during the pandemic? Have you tried anything from Shea Moisture?

  1. Yogurt is very important in Turkey, because it is both nutritious and fermented by our mothers at home. If you want to use a homemade mask, they say that when you put honey in yogurt and apply it to your skin in a very small amount, it will nourish the skin.like a nice mask, I am reviewing different products as the sebum on my skin increases during the water period when we transition to summer.
    Thanks for your review:)

  2. it sounds like a great product! It's nice it helped your hair too. We have had salons open here since after the first lockdown in 2020 as there haven't been any cases (although when we have the occasional 3 day lockdown when a case gets out of quarantine they usually close for that). I haven't been though as I'm trying to regrow my hair to donate again - something like this I should look into to keep it healthy and strong, as I only trim it occasionally!

Hope that you are having a nice weekend :) Another cold one here, but it has stopped raining!

  5. I haven't tried anything from Shea Moisture (I think) so thanks for the heads up about this, Shannon.:) And yeah....even when we opened up quickly that one time, our family wasn't really comfortable still going out. I still trim my kids' hair. And my hair has always been a disaster since I started bleaching it decades ago (LOLZ) so I think I'm beyond help.:P
I hope you get your second vaccine soon as well. I got mine already (we live in a hot spot) but my husband and kids are still waiting for theirs. I got really sick after the second dose (I got all the side effects! Arhg!) but at least, for now, I can breathe a little easily.
Hope you have a great week ahead:)

    1. Your kids are lucky that you are taking care of their hair during this time! Thank you very much! I have my second dose appointment booked now...so the wait is on. I am so sorry to hear that you were so sick after the second dose. It is so strange how it hits some people differently than others. My husband has been fine but other people I know have had every possible side effect. Go figure! <3
