christmas affirmations, journal prompts, and self care ideas

The countdown is officially on. Christmas Day is almost here! I am always surprised at how quickly the latter half of December passes, even though it seems to be this way each and every year. Though there are all sorts of wonderful moments to enjoy and fun items on the seasonal to-do list...this can also be a time of stress and overwhelm. Maybe your calendar looks a little too full this year, you are struggling to finish your holiday shopping, or there is a project at work that seems to have taken over your life. Does it all feel like too much? Take a deep breath in and let it out. You aren't alone. There are ways to manage stress and overwhelm this holiday season. Here are some Christmas themed affirmations, journal prompts, and self care ideas.

Sometimes, a little positivity can make all the difference. Especially during such a hectic time of year! In general, many of our thoughts veer towards the negative, which is why it is so important to take a few moments each day to actively focus on positive thoughts. Doing so can boost your mood and your confidence. Feeling overwhelmed with a work project this holiday season? Look in the mirror and say out loud: "I can handle difficult situations. I am productive, smart, and dedicated. I believe in my ability to complete this project." Have too many holiday get togethers on your calendar? Try repeating the following: "It is safe for me to cancel plans when I need to. I am allowed to set boundaries and prioritize my needs. I choose how I spend my time this holiday season." Behind on your Christmas shopping or seasonal to-do list? Give these affirmations a try: "I don't need to do it all to have a wonderful celebration. What matters most this holiday season is that I give and receive love." Try some of these example affirmations or write some of your own. A little positivity can reduce your seasonal stress.

Looking for a way to combat holiday stress? Take time to let it all out. Maybe your loved ones are making all sorts of demands or you feel overwhelmed with the cooking and shopping that needs to be done. It happens! Take some time to express how you feel in a way that feels safe. You might find it preferable to talk out loud while you are home alone, vent to a trusted friend, or to write your thoughts down in a journal. Don't plaster a fake smile on your face and pretend that everything is fine when it is not. You are allowed to be stressed, sad, scared, or whatever else. Let it all out to experience some peace of mind.

Self care doesn't have to look like bubble baths and nights off. Even with a busy holiday schedule, it is possible to incorporate a little self care into your days. It could be as simple as wearing your favourite perfume, adding on a pair of Christmas earrings, or taking a moment to appreciate some holiday lights you happen to pass by. It could involve a night in front of the television with a new Netflix movie or it might look like organizing the junk drawer in your home. Self care can be whatever you want it to be! Think about some small tasks that will make you feel better and do what you can to make them happen.

How is the holiday season treating you so far? Will you use any of these affirmations, journal prompts, and self care ideas?
