I've always been a Disney Princess kind of girl. Growing up, it was Princesses good and Villains bad. Though I certainly would not consider myself a Disney Villain enthusiast (so many of them are downright evil and mean)...this is the ideal time of year to embrace a little darkness. After all, spooky season is well underway. This Disney Villain Swivel Shadow Palette from Townley has three different layers and each one is dedicated to a different villain. There are matte, shimmer, and glitter shades to choose from in each layer. This first post will include a mini review of the packaging and theme. It will also include a full review of the Maleficent layer and a #FOTD. Over the next few days, there will be reviews and makeup looks focused on the Ursula and The Evil Queen palettes included in this set. Ready for a bit of spooky fun? It is time to check out this unusual palette.
As you can see from the photo above, there is a lot to love about this particular palette. The swivel design means that there is a lot of variety included in the set. There are all sorts of well themed colours. I don't mind the swivel design at all, though there are some drawbacks to the packaging in general. Mostly that the magnetic closure on the side does not work very well at all. This means the palette does not stay safe and secure, so I have to be somewhat careful when I store the product. Something else that is a bit odd about the packaging? On the inside, there is a picture of Cruella de Vil, but she is not one of the featured Disney Villains. Not only is she not shown on the front of the palette, but she does not have her own palette inside. The characters are: Maleficent, Ursula, and The Evil Queen. It just seemed like a strange decision to include a photo of a character that has real place in the palette. So, there are clearly some pros and cons when it comes to the packaging. I love the swivel idea and the fact that three characters have their own distinct palette. I also love the colourful theme and thoughtful eyeshadow shades. However, there were some misses with the magnetic closure and the confusing inclusion of Cruella de Vil.
Now to take a peek at the first layer of the Disney Villain Swivel Shadow Palette. It is all about Maleficent. There is a picture of her and the words, "Oh dear, what an awkward situation." The colours here are very much inspired by the character, with purples, blues, and greens. There are matte, shimmer, and glitter shades included. I have to say...this palette was really impressive. Not all affordable eyeshadow palettes are made equally, especially when there are bolder colours involved, but this wowed. That blue shadow? The purples? Amazing. I also really love the gorgeous shimmery shades. The finishes are beautiful and the pigmentation is stellar. I also like the glitters that are included (especially the purple glitter that has different shapes) but those absolutely require a glitter glue and careful application. So, definitely keep that in mind before adding a little glitter.
The Disney Villain Swivel Shadow Palette may not be perfect...but wow...there is a lot to love. The first layer, dedicated to Maleficent, checked off an awful lot of boxes. I love the theme, the colours selected, and the overall quality of the eyeshadows. These perform well, are highly pigmented, and make it possible to create makeup looks that are anything but ordinary.
What do you think of this Disney Villain eyeshadow palette? Who is your favourite Disney Villain?
That palette looks fantastic, even if there are some drawbacks and inconsistencies with the packing. And I absolutely love the look you created here. I love a purple eyeshadow! xxx
