Some days are all about colour, glitter, and pizzazz. Other days are better suited to neutrals and straight forward makeup looks. Typically, I save the glitz and glamour for nights out and special events. Then the warm neutrals and subtle smokey looks are my everyday, going to work, running errands go-tos. A little while back, I stumbled upon the Magnetic Personality eyeshadow palette from theBalm. This is a brand that I've noticed popping up more and more where I live. From mini displays at the drugstore to discount stores like Winners and Marshalls....theBalm is taking over.
Mini Review: theBalm Magnetic Personality Eyeshadow Palette
This is certainly a unique eyeshadow palette. Not necessarily due to the shade selection (which is pretty and wearable but not exactly groundbreaking) but the magnetic aspect. The backing of the palette itself is magnetic, which makes it possible to move around and organize each eyeshadow pan however you would like. For instance, you can create your own little quad or trio...or simply organize the shades in a way that pleases you. Or you could even de-pot other single eyeshadows in your collection and use this magnetic palette as an old school Z-palette. There are lots of great options!
In terms of the colours themselves, you have everything here to create warm easy to wear makeup looks. Though the black isn't ultra pigmented (and doesn't give that jet black finish), it works well to add depth to an everyday makeup look. Out of all the shades here, my favourites are the two shimmery square shadows (they look wonderful together or can create a simple one shadow look), the small pans of gold, and that deep red shade. They are all really stunning. You could absolutely create a look that is glamorous and suitable for night...but generally speaking, this is an ideal selection for those quick, easy, everyday creations.
Everyday Makeup Look feat. theBalm Eyeshadow Palette
To create the everyday makeup look, shown above, I used a combination of shimmer and matte shades. Through the crease was that light brown (the large square pan) to build the shape and act as a neutral transition. Then on the outer third of the eye, I used the deeper shimmer (that purple-ish taupe) and the lighter shimmer square (a warm champagne shade) on the inner third. To add a little extra depth and make this slightly smokey, I patted on that deep brown (the small rectangular pan) along the lash line on both the upper and lower lash line. To add that extra pop underneath the eye (and because I really enjoy the golds in this set), I applied a very small amount of the deeper gold in the centre. Then, ta da! In just a couple of minutes, the eyeshadow portion of the look was complete. To finish it all off, I added on eyeliner, mascara, and a peach toned blush.
Overall, I am pleased with this palette. The design is unique and the shades are pretty fool proof. If you don't have a lot of time to get ready in the morning or are newer with makeup....this is something that you will really enjoy.
Have you tried this palette? Are you a fan of theBalm?
