The holiday season makes me smile for an awful lot of reasons. Like spending time with family, drinking cups of hot chocolate, and looking at all of the beautiful decorations. Another reason it is so wonderful? All of the seasonal makeup releases, of course! Each and every year, beauty brands release limited edition items inspired by the holidays. In the past, I have tried out quite a few....most notably from Too Faced. Not only are they one of my favourite high end brands in general, their seasonal releases are always so much fun. (You can check out reviews from holidays passed here and here.) This year, I added the Christmas Dreams set to my makeup collection. Ready to take a peek inside? Here are all the details you need to know before you add it to your wish list.
Too Faced Christmas Dreams Set
Review: The Extra Goodies
Before getting into that massive (and totally stunning) eyeshadow palette, let's take a peek at the extra goodies that were included with the set.
- Travel Makeup Bag. Though I certainly have more than my fair share of makeup bags floating around, this is one that I really enjoy. Why? It is huge! I love the massive size (it can fit the palette, all of the extras, and way more) and that adorable print. The colour is a soft pink and it has swans, bows, and gold stars scattered everywhere. It is both sweet and functional.
- Hangover RX 3-in-1 Primer and Setting Spray. This was an item that I had never tried from Too Faced. Though they have a ton of well-reviewed face products, I tend to stick to the fun stuff: lipstick, glitter, and eyeshadow. That being said, this primer really came in handy. I used it the day that I met my favourite band (more on that soon) and my makeup looked flawless for the entire day and night. It also smells amazing, which is a total bonus!
- Better Than Sex Mascara. Yes, this mascara is amazing. There are a few that I love (like The Super Sizer from Cover Girl and They're Real! from Benefit) but this is definitely high up there on my list. It is jet-black and adds lots and lots of volume.
- Pink Swan Lip Gloss. Talk about a total home run. When it comes to lip glosses, I usually prefer to skip them. (There is nothing more annoying than sticky lips!) This gloss from Too Faced has it all. Sparkle, shine, and best of all, a smooth and silky finish. It isn't sticky at all and is extremely comfortable. It wears naturally and adds a stunning pink and gold sparkle to any lip look.
Review: Dream Queen Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced have released some pretty impressive holiday palettes over the years. (Speaking of, you can watch my YouTube video of the Too Faced Gingerbread Cookie Palette from last year!) That being said, the Dream Queen set is definitely a standout. Sure, it has lots of fabulous holiday shades but it also has a great balance of beautiful everyday shadows. You can see from the picture above that there are lots of warm toned browns, neutral matte shades, and some deeper smokey colours that make this a well rounded set for day and nighttime looks.
As for the fun holiday aspects, that bold purple (Christmas FOMO) is fabulous and so are the reds (like Let's Roll and Cozy Up) and of course, all of those glittery metallic colours. With lots of glitter, mattes, a satin finishes, there is enough variety to create a ton of different holiday inspired looks. Out of all the colours, my personal favourites are: Christmas FOMO, Cozy Up, Wrap It Up, and Christmas Cheer. Speaking of these shadows....how cute are the names? Each and every one has a Christmas themed name that will make you smile. They are cute, funny, and perfectly themed.
Also included in this palette are four face products. There is one medium toned bronzer, two blush shades (one is a coral shade and the other a soft glittery pink), along with a bronzey highlight. All of these are fabulous and I have really been loving that highlight. Even though I normally skip super bronzey highlights....this one has just the right amount of shimmer and shine. I love it.
Overall, this is a stellar holiday set. I love all of the extras and the palette itself has everything you could want. Warm tones, glitters, blush shades, a highlight, and so much more. It is a wonderful addition to any and all holiday looks - but can be used long after the Christmas tree is put away for the year. There are some really beautiful and wearable shades included.
