review: le macaron fun sized eyeshadow palette (violet voss)

Some brands are more impressive than others. When it comes to Violet Voss, my past experiences have been overwhelmingly positive. From The Rainbow Eye Shadow Palette to the Care Bears inspired releases, several Violet Voss palettes have become standouts in my makeup collection. As a result, it was extra thrilling to be gifted the Violet Voss Le Macaron Fun Sized palette at Christmastime. (I was gifted lots of different beauty products around the holiday season. More will be reviewed here on the creation of beauty is art. in the weeks and months to come!) How did Le Macaron compare to other Violet Voss releases? Here is everything you need to know about this ultra shimmery eyeshadow palette from Violet Voss. 

The Fun Sized palettes from Violet Voss are great, because the price is fairly affordable (approximately $25 CDN) and it is compact enough for travel. There are many different options in the Fun Sized format, but the Le Macaron one definitely stands out thanks to all of that shimmer. If you are someone who adores matte shadows, this will be a palette to skip. However, if you are like me, and have a serious weakness for shimmer and sparkle...Le Macaron will certainly check off the boxes. 

In terms of the packaging, this is ultra simple, with cardboard, a magnetic closure, and a mirror inside. There are no eyeshadow names, which is a bit of a letdown, because higher end eyeshadows typically have names to match the theme. As for the colour story, there is a lot to love. There are purples, red, copper, gold, brown, green, blue, and a champagne shade. An awful lot to work with! Whether you want a look that is bright and bold or a little more neutral, there is enough variety to make it happen. That being said, the best way to describe Le Macaron would be...meh. The shadows are pretty and look nice enough on the lids, but the formula is not what I have come to expect from the brand. Several shimmers are flaky and do not apply well with a brush. Some of the shadows are not as pigmented either. Perhaps this has to do with the stellar quality of other Violet Voss eyeshadow palettes. Knowing how great this brand can be makes a so-so release even more frustrating. I really wish there was consistency within the palette itself as well as consistency with other releases from the brand. 

The makeup look shown above focused on the purple shadows. As you can see, these look a little bit dull and are not as bold or impactful as anticipated. The champagne shadow on the inner portion of the lid looks really pretty and has a nice finish, but it also has a lot of fallout. Along the lower lash line, I actually used the blue shadow. That one performed well and was much smoother than some of the others. It would have been so much better if all the shadows in the Le Macaron palette performed in the same way. Though there are some pros to consider, like the compact size, an all shimmer palette, and the colour story, there are also some cons to keep in mind. Some of the shadows are flaky and have a lot of fallout, where others perform well. Some shadows are not as pigmented as expected. There was just a bit too much inconsistency in this eyeshadow palette.

To be honest, Le Macaron Fun Sized Eye Shadow Palette from Violet Voss was a bit of a disappointment. I had high hopes based on past experiences with the brand, but this particular palette struggled to provide a consistent experience from one shadow to the next. Though there are a lot of reasons to love Violet Voss, this particular eyeshadow palette is not one of them.
