happy canada day!

I have always been proud to be Canadian...but with all the upheaval and uncertainty in the world these days, I am especially grateful to live where I do. No country, city, or town is perfect - but it is amazing to live in a place that celebrates diversity. Over the years, you may have heard a few common Canadian stereotypes. For instance, that we are all polite, friendly, say sorry a lot, and constantly eat Tim Hortons. Well, I don't know if those are always true but it makes me smile to think that our reputation around the world is largely positive.

You may be wondering why I am waxing poetic about my country today. The answer is simple: it is Canada Day! Though our American neighbours will be celebrating in a few short days (July 4th to be precise...which is actually my wedding anniversary. Yes, my husband and I will be celebrating three years of marriage very soon), the festivities here are fully underway. There will be lots of red and white t-shirts, maple leaf shaped sunglasses, and cold beverages to enjoy on the patio.

Some years, I like to go out and celebrate Canada Day in style while other times, I prefer a relaxing day at home. This year it will be a bit of both. My plan is to sleep in, relax, and watch some Netflix in the morning. Then I will get ready to drive down to the nearest beach to check out all of the planned events. Usually they have live music, shops, food vendors, and a dazzling fireworks display once the sun goes down. It all sounds super fun, but the fact that I will be spending the day with my hubby and a good friend makes it even better. I can't wait!

Whether you are celebrating Canada Day yourself or are simply eager to enjoy the weekend....here is to a wonderful day of summer and sunshine.

Happy Canada Day!

  7. Happy Canada Day! Yes, you're right, the stereotypes about Canada are mostly positive. I've never heard anyone say anything negative about the country.
