theme week: the breakfast club x physicians formula (mini reviews)

"You see us as you want to see us - in the simplest terms. In the most convenient definitions." Though I can't remember the first time that I watched The Breakfast Club, I have many memories of watching it over the years. It used to play on television just about every weekend when I was a teenager, so plenty of my Sunday afternoons were spent learning from Claire, Bender, Brian, Allison, and Andy. It has long been one of my favourite movies, as so many John Hughes films seem to be. When my mom and I had a belated Valentine's Day celebration together, she gifted me a Physicians Formula set themed around The Breakfast Club. That visit was the last time things felt normal, so this theme week is a little bittersweet. Bitter, because so much has changed since that day. Sweet, because I recognize how lucky I am to have had lots of special celebrations with my family over the years. Despite the fact that there are still a lot of unknowns at the moment, my intention is to make sure the posts this week are full of love and nostalgia. The first post in this theme week is dedicated to the collection and a few mini reviews. In the days to come, there will be even more makeup reviews and makeup looks highlighting the different products.

This Physicians Formula collection includes seven different beauty items themed around the iconic movie, The Breakfast Club. It all comes in a box that looks like a school desk, with lots of movie themed images. I love that the packaging is so thoughtful and fun. On the back of the box, there is a description of each item (and an ingredient list) and the following description: "Take it back to 1985 with the iconic 80s masterpiece, The Breakfast Club, re-imagined in this limited edition seven-piece beauty collection that is sure to make sure your look is a hit! Each product is infused with our exclusive butter blend of murumuru butter, cupuacu butter, and tucuma butter from the nutrient-rich Amazon, and is packed with essential fatty acids and pro-vitamins that soften, condition, and moisturize the skin for a radiant, detention-worthy glow!" The set includes the following:

  • Saturday Detention Face Palette Volume 1
  • Saturday Detention Face Palette Volume 2
  • The Princess Lipsticks
  • Detention Mascara
  • Being Bad Feels Pretty Good Eyeshadow Palette

Detention Mascara in Ruckus Black. The first mini review is of the Detention Mascara. Like all of the products in this collection, the design is nicely themed with a character silhouette on the mascara tube along with some 80s inspired details. The mascara wand is fairly basic with small bristles. The mascara itself is decent, but not spectacular. It works well enough but is not something that I would ever consider purchasing if given the opportunity. The packaging is super cute and I like that a mascara was included in The Breakfast Club themed collection, but neither the mascara wand or the mascara itself wows.

The Princess Lipstick in Get Real, The World Is An Imperfect Place, and I Don't Like Monday's. Talk about adorable. These themed lipsticks are so well themed and feature a Claire silhouette and some smaller character silhouettes in the back. The packaging is adorable and the colours are fabulous. I especially love the shade Get Real, which is the first pictured, because it is a very 80s inspired dusty pink. (And I mean that in the best possible way.) I also really like the brown colour, because I have a serious weakness for brown lipsticks of all varieties. I like the packaging, colours, and the creamy formula. These are winners.

Curious about the other items included in The Breakfast Club x Physicians Formula collection? Be sure to check back later this week for reviews of the face palettes (there is a volume one and volume two) and the eyeshadow palette included in this set.

Are you a fan of The Breakfast Club? What is your favourite 80s movie?

  1. Much to my shame I've got to admit that I've never watched The Breakfast Club. Nevertheless, the Physicians Formula set looks quite impressive. It's a shame that the mascara wasn't all that impressive, but I'm loving the colours of those lipsticks.
I do hope things do get back to some kind of normal for you soon, Shannon. xxx

  3. Really that movie isn't so popular here in Italy (at least nowadays, I don't know when it came out) , I saw it a lot of years ago and stop.
But the box looks still very interesting, it's a pity for the mascara but the lipsticks shades looks great!

It's such a perfect sheet mask =) So sad that it's not longer available.
My week was really nice =) And I hope this week will be good too.
The bubble bath was a big bargain.

Nice review, this looks super cute and interesting.
I don't know "The Breakfast Club", I only heard about it, but it sounds so good.
And the brand is also good, years ago I had a mascara and it was nice.
This stuff inside looks pretty, especially the lipsticks are so beautiful.

  7. I heard about this show, but I never watched it. The make up looks great, though. Something about the packaging of lipsticks just screams retro to me. I also like the swatches of the lipsticks.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Shannon:) I think even if the makeup turns out not to be good (which thank goodness these lippies so far look fab), I would love this collection.
