review: maybelline lip studio python metallic lip kit
Lip products? I've got plenty! But who cares? No big deal....I want mooooore. (If you read that first line to the tune of "Part of Their World" from The Little Mermaid, you are amazing.) On a more serious note, I have tons of lip products in my makeup collection. More than I will ever use up. Which is why, over the last several months, I have cut back my lipstick purchases dramatically. There has been the odd exception though....like the Maybelline Lip Studio Python Metallic Lip Kit in the shade Provoked. There was just something about it. The colour, the compact packaging, and the optional metallic finish. It had the potential to be the ultimate on-the-go set.
So, how did it perform? Was it worth the splurge? Inside the small compact is a matte lip colour and then a metallic eyeshadow. The idea is that you can layer the metallic eyeshadow (or powder) on top of the matte lipstick. Pretty simple! The matte lip colour is absolutely gorgeous and I have actually worn it quite a lot on its own. This colour in particular is a beautiful rich nude but there are other options in the collection as well, including a deep red, brown, and even a vibrant purple.
While the matte shade is stunning, I have to admit, I was a little surprised to discover that the metallic aspect of this metallic lip kit was nothing more than a metallic eyeshadow. It seemed like an odd choice for a set like this. I think I was expecting another lip product or metallic gloss instead. However, the metallic powder is actually something I love. Yes, it can be layered on top of the matte lipstick to give your look that stunning metallic finish....but it can also be used as an eyeshadow. That means you can touch up your eye makeup on the go. Thank goodness for that! This is a small, simple little set that you can throw into your purse in case of beauty emergencies.
Was this lip set needed? Probably not. Do I love it? Yes! This is a great on-the-go product you can keep in your bag in case a last minute touch up is needed or if you decide to go out for drinks after work. Here is a recent makeup look I created using the metallic lip kit on both the eyes and the lips....

Have you tried any of the shades from the Maybelline Metallic Lip Kits? What did you think of them?
