the official release party of a showgirl (taylor swift movie)

When the first images were released for The Life of a Showgirl album from Taylor Swift, the excitement was immediate. I loved the theme and could not wait to hear more about the music. Eventually, it was announced that there would be The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, a movie experience to celebrate the album - and it would be only available for three days. I tried to purchase a set of tickets for myself and my oldest friend in the world, but the movie theater website crashed and I was unsuccessful. Luckily, my friend continued to check back and was able to obtain two tickets in a theater a few cities over. Ready to hear about The Official Release Party of a Showgirl experience? Keep reading for a mini review and a themed makeup look.

All week long, my mind was focused on one thing: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. I am always excited about new music from artists that I love, but the idea of a release party at the movie theater made it even more exciting. I did my best to avoid spoilers on the day (which was difficult because everyone was talking about the new album) so the experience would be as exciting as possible. Ahead of the release party movie screening, a lot of time was spent on the outfit, accessories, and makeup. I wore an Eras Tour inspired crew neck sweatshirt, my favourite pair of black jeans, some showgirl-esque accessories, and the Taylor Swift inspired bracelet that my friend made me. I had a lot of fun getting ready for the movie event.

When it came to the makeup, it was obvious that the main album colours would be incorporated (warm orange and mint green). Colours from a couple of Morphe eyeshadow palettes were used as the base and then some coloured glitter was added on top using some glitter glue. It was a fun makeup look that reminded me how much fun makeup looks with lots and lots of glitter can be. As for the movie experience itself, it was a positive one. Though there were not full blown balloon displays and decor like at the Eras Tour movie experience, the crowd was in a good mood. Most people just sat and listened.

As for my first impressions of The Life of a Showgirl album? Positive. I have since seen the mixed reactions online, but my early impressions of the album are positive. I loved that the movie experience included the new music video, behind the scenes of making the new video, and of course, there were lyric videos for each song. In addition, there were videos where Taylor spoke about the inspiration of the song and what it meant to her, which was interesting and added another layer to the overall experience of listening to the album. Standout songs for me at this point are Opalite, Eldest Daughter, and CANCELLED!

I am still waiting for my pre-ordered version of the album to arrive (with the Canada Post strike still underway, it is uncertain whether the delivery will be delayed or if it will be delivered by some other service) so until then, it will be YouTube streaming for me. Not my preferred way to listen to music, but hopefully The Life of a Showgirl CD will arrive soon. At least I was able to enjoy the movie theater experience for the first listen. It was a fun evening with a good friend and memorable music.

Have you listened to the new Taylor Swift album? Were you able to attend a release party screening?
