random birthday things (makeup, music, and travel)

There is something special about birthdays. Though some people prefer not to celebrate them fully...my birthday has always been a day that I love. The way that I celebrate has shifted and changed over the years (moving from themed parties as a child to dinners with friends as a young adult to laid back celebrations with family in more recent years) but my love of birthdays still remains. This year, the plan is to sleep in, watch The Stand miniseries, and then have dinner with my immediate family. Laid back, but fun. My birthday is today, but there have been a few pre-birthday celebrations related to makeup, music, and travel.

Birthday Makeup. There has been a picture saved on my computer for years now of my favourite actress. The makeup look was so beautiful. I loved that there was a simple eye look with a jewel on the lower lash line and then a bold red lipstick to finish it all off. It was a classic makeup look with a twist. As a treat for my birthday, I decided to take a little time to re-create the look. (Sometimes, life is busy and it is hard to carve out time to be playful with makeup. My birthday was a nice excuse to do that.) Though I do not look anything like the stunning actress in the original photograph...it was fun to do something different.

Taylor Swift Pre-Ordered CD. When The Life of a Showgirl album was released, my friend and I went to one of the movie screenings. (Read about that experience here.) After that, it was a waiting game for the CD my husband pre-ordered for my birthday to arrive. Once it did, I was given the go ahead to enjoy it before my actual birthday happened. The CD has been in heavy rotation ever since. I absolutely love the album - and it was fun to receive this version, because it also came with photocards and a Taylor Swift bag charm. Those little extras are so much fun. My parents also gifted me the vinyl version of The Life of a Showgirl album to add to my record collection, so it has been a very Taylor Swift themed birthday celebration.

Birthday Getaway to Niagara Falls. My husband and I have birthdays very close to the same date, so that resulted in a joint celebration in Niagara Falls. It wasn't something planned out well ahead of time, but just a few days before, with a hotel booked at the last minute. I am not necessarily a last minute kind of person, but it all worked out well. I think we both needed a little time away before the busy end of year stuff starts to happen. We walked by the falls a lot, went to an observation deck area called The Tunnel, enjoyed all of the activities on Clifton Hill, and checked out some outlet stores. It was really fun.

There have been some wonderful pre-birthday gifts and activities lately...and now that the actual day is here, I am ready to rest, relax, and see some loved ones. Today, I am taking a little time to be grateful for another birthday and another year older.

How you like like to celebrate your birthday? Do you have anything planned for the weekend?
