i write only because there is a voice within me that will not be stilled.

Writing is one of my oldest friends. It has been there during all sorts of ups and downs. It is a place where I can work through my feelings, find comfort, and feel less alone. I remember when I was younger, there were all sorts of binders and notebooks filled with my endless scribbles. Some days, my hands could not seem to write fast enough. I miss that feeling. Though writing is still a beloved companion, the words don't always flow as easily as they used to. Somewhere along the line, I became hypercritical of my work, of my words, and of myself. What I wrote never seemed good enough. I started to write self-consciously. Timid. Afraid. Small. the creation of beauty is art. has become a place where I can push past that fear and write with more ease. As for my other creative pursuits, like books and short stories and poetry, that is a little more hit and miss.

Some of my New Year's Resolutions this year were focused on writing. Some examples? To finally finish the rough draft of the book that I have been working on for several years. To write more poetry. To journal more. To write for fun more often. Though there were several writing related resolutions, the overall goal was simply to write more. It can be difficult to find time for those creative hobbies between work and family and household responsibilities. At the end of a long day, it is so much easier to sit in front of the television or to read a book rather than create something new. So, my focus has been on sprinkling writing into my days instead of waiting for everything to be done to start. That sometimes looks like pausing the task that I am working on to write a poem when inspiration hits. Sometimes it looks like starting off my day with a writing prompt or jotting down ideas for another chapter. Despite some recent setbacks (with a loved one having health issues, my schedule and emotions have been all over the place)...I feel good about the progress that has been made towards many of these resolutions.

One of my closest friends once said, "I don't always love writing, but I always love having written." I keep that quote close to my heart these days. Sometimes, the words flow with ease and emotion. Other days, it is harder to express what needs to be expressed. That quote reminds me that even when the process is a challenge, the result is worth it. Writing is always worth it.

You have the itch for writing born in you.
It's quite incurable.
What are you going to do with it?
- Lucy Maud Montgomery

What do you like to write? Are there any hobbies you are trying to focus on this year?

  1. This is a great New Year resolution. As someone who has read a lot about writing, I often came across this advice that it is important to make time for writing, and that it's important to journal and write for fun. It may not be possible every single day, but it's important to try because to write- one always must start somewhere. So, it seems like you're on the right track with your decisions. They practically mirror a lot of writing advice I have read over the years. When we write for fun, it opens place for new ideas. Writing is like any skill, one has to keep it alive. I think our blogs are also good for this. We all write our blog posts and we write comments. I think this counts as well. We can review our writing this way- and that's also good for building our writing skills.

Like yourself, I do love writing. I have some writing I'd like to finish.
I'd also love to write more, just for fun. Wish me luck!

    1. That is such great advice. You are so right that "one always must start somewhere." It can be so hard to start, so building that momentum is super helpful. I will do my best to keep the skill alive! And I am sure you will, too. I hope you are able to finish some of your writing projects as well :D

  3. I have been doing a lot of writing since my teens. I did a lot of poetry but not so much now. I always keep a record of my ideas in a book.

I am now trying to get my 6 year old to write stories. So today, she gave me a few lines and she drew the photos for her story. They were only a few sentences long but hopefully it gets her imagination going and gets her into writing.

  5. Yes she's really happy about that =) Thanks a lot, it's much better today.
Thank you. Yes Netflix has so many series and movies, you can watch it the whole day without getting bored. I love "High School Musical" so much, all the songs are still great and Sharpay is just amazing <3 :D Love her humor. Maybe I will watch the TV show too some day.
Yes I like it so much, can't wait to wear it.

I totally agree with this post <3 I love writing about anything in my head, it's so much fun and sometimes it's like therapy.
This year I want to puzzle more :D I started with my birthday puzzle and it's so much fun but also very difficult. I'm curious how long it will take.

  8. It is very difficult to be a writer in Türkiye, even the cost of publishing a book is very high, but I have a draft of a book, I hope I can publish it.

  10. I've always loved writing too, but apart from a diary when I was younger and I never really did anything with this itch I had, until I started my blog.
I'm glad to read that in spite of your setbacks, you're still finding snippets of time to write and are making progress with your resolutions! xxx

  12. Your post truly resonated with me! ✨ Writing has a magical way of being a companion through both the highs and the lows. I love how you described those moments of scribbling in notebooks—it's like your thoughts flow onto the page without holding back. ✍️💭 There’s something so comforting about expressing ourselves through writing, and it’s amazing how it can bring clarity and connection. Keep writing, it’s such a powerful tool! 💖📖
