mini review: mermaid brush set

Sometimes, items look too pretty to actually use. No wonder this mermaid brush set has been sitting in my beauty room since the holiday season. A friend generously gifted me this beautiful 8 Piece Premium Brush Set for Christmas, where all of the brushes are shaped like mermaid tails. It was just so cute that I was hesitant to take the brushes out of the box and put them to use. So, it sat there. I would look at it. Admire it. Think about how pretty the brushes are. Well, eventually, I made the decision that the items in my home were there to be used and not just admired. So, it was time to open up that box, pull out those mermaid brushes, and start incorporating them into my regular makeup routine. Curious about the set? How they perform? Here is a mini review of these beautiful mermaid inspired makeup brushes.

Inside the set there were eight brushes in total along with a sparkly pink brush bag to hold them. The brushes include: a large fluffy powder brush, a flat topped buffing brush, a large fluffy highlight brush, a fluffy eyeshadow brush, a small flat brush (suitable for applying glitter or cream products), a small flat brush (suitable for applying eyeliner or to fill in brows), and a mid-sized domed eyeshadow brush. The brushes themselves have very soft bristles and apply products well. I really enjoy the variety of brushes included. Especially because there were some shapes that were a little more unusual and unique, compared to many other brush sets out there. Visually, these brushes are fantastic as well. Those mermaid colours really pop - and the soft tint of pink at the top of the white bristles adds an extra element of mermaid goodness. The handle design has mermaid scales and a tail, which makes them so fun and immediately differentiates them from many other brush sets.

These mermaid brushes are beautiful and perform well. The only downside? That pink sparkly bag to hold them. Sadly, the glitter looked fantastic but it shed absolutely everywhere. I couldn't even pick up the bag without getting glitter all over myself. Unfortunately, because of the excessive shedding, I chose to throw away the bag itself and just enjoy the brushes. It was a lovely additional item in the set but the quality simply did not match that of the brushes.

Overall, this set was lovely. Though the brush bag didn't pan out...the brushes themselves look beautiful and work nicely. They have become a welcome addition to my makeup routine.

Do you have any mermaid inspired makeup brushes?
