four ways to improve the quality of your photos (inspired by: shopbackdrop)

Photography has always been a source of inspiration to me. Whether I am trying to snap the perfect photo or am enjoying the work of others....a single image has the ability to inspire, tell a story, and bring up deeply rooted emotions. Have you been wanting to up your game lately? Maybe you are trying to improve the quality of your blog pictures. Or you want to take an unforgettable family photo. Whatever the reason, there are plenty of ways to take your next photographs to the next level.

  1. Consider Using a Backdrop. One of the easiest ways to add an element of professionalism to your next shot is to use a backdrop. This is something that I have started to do here and on my YouTube channel. (There are a couple that I use when I am getting ready to take my blog photos and one that I have specifically for my videos.) Having a backdrop allows you to achieve a cleaner finish, add personality, and highlight the focal point of your photo.
  2. Avoid Zooming In. I know, it is tempting to zoom in on a product or item until it is fully in frame. Though in theory this makes sense, it can actually compromise the quality of your photo. The end result is a picture that appears grainy or slightly blurred. Avoid this by moving closer to your subject or cropping the photograph afterwards.
  3. Pay Attention to Lighting at all Times. Easily one of the most important aspects of a good photo is lighting. Low or dim lighting can make it difficult to see your subject (whether that is a person or a new eyeshadow palette) while an overexposed picture can wash away details. Take time to get familiar with your camera so you can fully understand its light and flash settings. Another option is to carry around a portable flash for your camera or smartphone or make the most of natural lighting.
  4. Don't be Afraid to Make Adjustments Later. It is time to take the pressure off. You don't need to take a perfect photo every single time. Sometimes, it may be beneficial to make small adjustments using a photo editor. Maybe you need to crop it slightly, increase the contrast level, or brighten up the colour a bit. It's okay to make necessary adjustments. Just be careful not to change or alter your photo too much. Especially if you are taking pictures of people rather than products.
