something is always born of excess.
Balance, balance, balance. Sometimes it is all I ever think about - how to get it...why I don't have it...eesh! It's enough to do my head in. My life is busy. And in the last few months, it's gotten even busier. I work a full time job plus 30+ hours a week at my freelance writing jobs. Things have been hectic, to say the least.
Most of the time, I think that I worry just as much about not being busy as I do about not being able to cope with it all. Busy means getting closer to my dreams. Busy means achieving something. Unfortunately, busy also means that a lot of other aspects of my life have fallen to the wayside. Like watching my favourite TV shows, cleaning my room, doing laundry, having a social life, or most importantly, sleeping! There just aren't enough hours in the day.
I may not have been able to achieve balance in my life yet, but I'm working on it!
One thing that is helping me out is doing one small thing for myself every other day. Just organizing papers, painting my toenails, or watching a movie....something that is for me. It makes me feel like I'm not losing my identity in the constant workload. Painting my toenails may not sound like much, but it's a reminder that my needs are just as important as my career aspirations.
What do you do to stay focused and balanced?

Good luck! I know what you mean when you feel like you're losing yourself in work. Sometimes I just have to take a walk in the woods and be somewhere far removed from my computer to settle my mind.

I so feel you. I'm experiencing similar thoughts. I stay focused by making sure I spend time with my loved ones. I also go out for walks when I feel stressed. Furthermore, I also sometimes work from home, in order to be able to concentrate better on what I'm doing/writing, but I don't know if that's a possibility for you?

I really admire you. Keep it up! I have faith/hope that things calm down career-wise after a while. And I really like your personal thing every other day idea. I REALLY like it. I might have to steal it, in fact.

I find that I struggle with keeping a balanced lift too. I find that if I make time for exercise most days, it helps me to calm myself and focus for the rest of the afternoon.

Shannon I completely relate to this post! I'm so glad you are finding time to do SOMETHING for yourself everyday. Funny you mention doing your toes... when my girls go to sleep at night, that's when I do my nails. It's my 'quiet-me time' and I enjoy it so much! BTW i'd love it if you check out my blog tomorrow for a MAJOR announcement! I'm so excited to finally share this with you! xo Carla

i think that taking time for myself is the biggest way I stay focused/balanced. and making sure i don't get too busy, because i'm not very good at handling a hectic lifestyle.
ReplyDeletePreach it! I so know the feeling! Keeping a balance is so important to a persons sanity!
