I love holidays and loathe summer. Perhaps that is the reason the Summerween trend has been making me smile lately. It adds a little bit of what I love (holidays and spooky season) into something that I do not (scorching temperatures and mosquitos). Originally from the animated series, Gravity Falls, Summerween has become a summer trend for all. It is essentially a summer version of Halloween. Think skeleton inflatables in the swimming pool, carving a "Jack-O-Melon" instead of a Jack-O-Lantern, and chilled pumpkin flavoured beverages. Keep reading to find out how I have been enjoying this fun twist on a fall holiday.
I don't know quite when Summerween started to be celebrated, but this is the first summer that I can recall seeing stores hop on board the trend. There is a full line of Summerween products at Bath & Body Works right now, with some familiar Halloween scents and some summer themed ones, like I Scream Float. The line is adorable, with more of a cute pink Halloween theme than something that is ultra spooky. (I chose not to purchase anything from this collection since I bought some Christmas In July themed items recently.) I have also seen lots of stores carry Summerween themed items, like inflatables, decor items, and even blankets. Unlike traditional Halloween items, these releases tend to be more on the cute side.
So, what does my Summerween celebration look like this year? It all started with the tea towels (shown above) from Isaac Mizrahi that I found at Winners. These have really been making me smile. I love the soft pink colour, the warm orange, and the adorable characters. There are cartoon ghosts riding bicycles, celebrating, tanning, and enjoying ice cream. My favourite little detail is the candy corn themed popsicle. There are also Jack-O-Lantern inspired pineapples. My weakness is seasonal tea towels, so this has certainly been making my Summerween special. I also decided to put up a small handful of my usual Halloween decorations, focusing on cute plush characters. In addition to some small little decorations, my Summerween has involved lots of Elvira's Movie Macabre DVDs. My husband knows that I love Elvira and treated me to a few movie sets.
Are you celebrating Summerween? Have you noticed more Summerween inspired releases lately?
