first impressions: glossier (ultralip high shine lipstick)

Glossier is an ultra popular brand, but to be honest, the only thing I really know about them is that there was a collaboration with Olivia Rodrigo. Oh, and I was able to test out a sample of their foundation a few years back. Beyond that, the brand is a bit of a mystery to me. I am not opposed to trying different items from Glossier, but I haven't felt compelled to run out to Sephora to fill my basket with their products either. Lucky for me, my sister passed along the Ultralip High Shine Lipstick in the shade Ember. Keep reading for a first impressions review that talks about all the essentials: packaging, colour, and comfort.

According to the brand, the Ultralip High Shine Lipstick is a "high-shine lipstick that has the rich moisture of a balm, sheen of a gloss, and buildable color of a lip tint in one step, without having to layer multiple products." I like the idea of a lip product that has it all - balm, gloss, and lipstick. This contains 4HA, jojoba seed oil, and meadowfoam seed oil. These are intended to hydrate and soften. In addition, the lip product is vegan, gluten free, cruelty free, and comes in recyclable packaging.

When it comes to the packaging, this is lightweight, with a soft pink colour on the outside, and inside, the product twists up. It is standard and basic. It doesn't feel luxurious at all (which I would expect for a $30 CDN price) but it serves its purpose. As for the colour of this particular Ultralip High Shine Lipstick, this is Ember, which is described as a deep mauve. This is definitely a rich berry colour. It is beautiful and would be well suited to the fall season. When it comes to the actual performance of the product, this does seem to check the boxes of a balm, gloss, and lipstick. It applies like a balm, has the shine of a gloss, and the colour of a lipstick. This is nicely pigmented and has a lot of shine. However, this is a little bit tacky. It isn't full on sticky like some lip products can be (especially glosses) but it is a bit tacky. I really love the Ember colour and have plans to wear this Ultralip High Shine Lipstick a lot in the months to come. It is a fabulous fall addition! That being said, it is unlikely that I would purchase a different colour from this line. It turns out that it is the colour that I love more than the formula itself.

Have you tried anything from Glossier? What products do you like the best?

    1. It is okay! I'm not sure that I would rush out to try something else from the brand, but the colour certainly is nice.

  3. Bom sábado e bom final de semana. Muitos produtos não chegam no Brasil.

  4. I'd never heard of this brand, to be honest, but at $30 CDN it would be beyond my budget anyway. I agree with you that the packaging looks rather basic for such a high end product, so I'm glad to read that - even if you found it a bit tacky - it still ticked quite a few boxes! xxx

  6. I get what you mean about the packaging; it’s functional but not exciting for the price. I haven’t tried Glossier much either, but the idea of a product that’s balm, gloss, and color in one is pretty appealing.

  7. Great first impressions! 💄 Ember sounds like such a gorgeous fall shade, even if the formula itself isn’t a must-have. I haven’t tried much from Glossier yet, but your review makes me curious to see which of their products really stand out.

  8. Interesting post, I don't know this brand but it sounds pretty cool.
But it's sad that it doesn't feel luxurious for this price.

    1. It seems that some of the higher end brands are not as luxurious as they could be!
