perfume week: mon paris (review)

When it comes to perfumes, many higher end fragrances do not tend to be my favourites. Often, the scents are quite heavy and can be overwhelming. My preference tends to be sweeter and lighter scents. However, there were two higher end perfumes that were gifted to me for Valentine's Day. One was from Burberry and the other from Yves Saint Laurent. During the remainder of this theme week, there will be reviews on both of them, starting with the YSL fragrances, Mon Paris.

The bottle for the Mon Paris Eau de Toilette is sophisticated and makes for a lovely display piece. It has rounded edges, a square lid, and an oversized bow detail on the front. It is easy to hold and aesthetically pleasing. As for the actual scent, this is intended to be Paris inspired and focused on passion and love. The top notes are strawberry, raspberry, pear, orange, Calabrian bergamot, tangerine, and Calone. The middle notes are peony, jasmine, Sambac, Chinese Jasmine, Datura, and orange blossom. The base notes are Indonesian patchouli leaf, patchouli, white musk, vanilla, Ambroxan, moss, and cedar.

To me, Mon Paris from YSL smells sweet but has a somewhat sharp scent to it as well. It is heavy and intense, so a little definitely goes a long way when applying this particular perfume. This scent would be best suited to an evening out. Though I love the bottle design and the layered bow, Mon Paris is unlikely to be added to a future favourites list. All that said, if you are someone who prefers a heavier scent, but still likes something fruity, Mon Paris might be an ideal choice for you. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preferences. Though the perfumes I tend to prefer are sweeter and lighter than this YSL release, it was still very thoughtful to be gifted a perfume for Valentine's Day - and I love the way this looks on my perfume shelf.

Have you worn Mon Paris from Yves Saint Laurent? What did you think of this particular fragrance?
