five makeup related shows to watch on netflix
Ahh, Netflix. We have a complicated relationship. On one hand, they recently cancelled my favourite television show (Fuller House, I hardly knew you....) and on the other hand, they offer access to more television shows, movies, and original programming than I will ever be able to watch. One of the benefits of this streaming service? There are plenty of beauty related programs to binge watch and enjoy. From makeover shows to documentaries and reality television favourites, there is no shortage of makeup related offerings. Here are five shows makeup enthusiasts may want to add to their Netflix watch list.
Glow Up. By far the most intriguing offering for makeup lovers is the reality competition show, Glow Up. It launched recently on Netflix and is definitely worthy of a streaming session. Here, contestants from the UK compete against one another in a series of challenges. The MUAs are all ridiculously talented and do so much more than a smokey eye! Their creations are artistic, challenging, and downright inspirational. From face paint to illusion makeup and even using prosthetic pieces....this television show offered an in-depth look at what it takes to create head-turning makeup looks.
Broken. The next on this list of makeup related shows? A documentary series called Broken. This series delves into several different topics but the one that stood out to me was the episode dedicated the the counterfeit beauty industry. Titled, "Makeup Mayhem," it explores the explosion of the beauty industry over the last several years. It also looks at what officials do to try to stop the sale of fake products - and the potential dangers to consumers of these products. It is fascinating, terrifying, and will really make you re-think the way you purchase products.
100% Hotter. Another reality show, this one is a little bit old school, in the best possible way. It reminds me of makeover shows like TLC's What Not to Wear. Essentially, you have someone who has a really over the top look. (Think layers upon layers of fake tan, ultra short dresses, or clothes that simply do not fit properly.) Three mentors make suggestions and aim to improve or tone down that over the top look. There are sections of each show dedicated to clothing, makeup, and hair. It is a fun and fluffy watch, perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Skin Wars. Anyone looking for a healthy dose of inspiration needs to look no further than Skin Wars. This competition show highlights the art of body painting. It is all about creativity, challenges, and transformation. Love the show? There is also the spin-off series, Skin Wars: Fresh Paint which is also available to stream on Netflix. Here, RuPaul challenges brand new artists to learn the skill of body painting in order to win prize money.
RuPaul's Drag Race. Whether this is streaming for you will depend on where you live. However, most seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race are currently streaming on Netflix Canada. (With the recent addition of the holiday special and the latest season of All Stars.) This show is dedicated to the art of drag. That means fantastic costumes and over-the-top makeup looks. Drag Race is a great way to get inspired to do something different, take chances with makeup, and unleash your boldest self.
Have you watched any of these Netflix shows? What are your favourite makeup related shows to watch?
Great post dear, so nice and interesting, love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
DeleteI don't know any of these! We had Netflix and he stopped it as we were using Amazon more. But I see a few shows that have second seasons so gonna get it again.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch all the foreign shows on it, so my feed was interesting! I like subtitled stuff haha! I don't think I've watched a makeup show - does watching QVC/shopping channel for the nail polish reviews count? ;-)
That makes a lot of sense! We have Amazon and Netflix and some months, it seems like we are watching one more than the other. Haha yes, I definitely think watching shopping channels counts! I never thought to watch them for the review aspect. So smart!
