new in: drugstore + high end lip products (and lipstick try on)

Lipstick is always a good idea. It constantly amazes me how the right lip product can completely transform a makeup look - or pull it all together. Even a wildly bold eye look somehow becomes more wearable once you add on the perfect nude lipstick shade. And a super simple creation instantly become head-turning with the swipe of a vibrant lip colour. Talk about magical! Though I confess, I am trying to cut back on my lip product purchases (to focus on using more of what I have), a handful of new items made their way into my collection. The lip products pictured above obtained were from events, giveaways, and things like that. So in honour of their new status, I wanted to do a mini review for each one and a lipstick try on.

Burt's Bees Liquid Lipstick in Sandy Seas

First up in this review and try on is the shade Sandy Seas from Burt's Bees. This is described as a glossy liquid lipstick and I think that description is just about right. The shade itself is a really nice rosy brown that would flatter an awful lot of makeup looks. In terms of the actual colour, I think this lip product is a success. However, I do find the glossy aspect of this formula makes the liquid lipstick rather sticky. I hoped that that sticky or tacky feeling would go away after the lipstick dried down but this was sadly not the case. It remains tacky on the lips throughout the wear time. If you are someone who doesn't mind that sticky gloss feeling, then this might work for you. If you're like me, and hate anything remotely sticky, maybe give this one a pass.

L'Oreal Paris Rouge Signature Liquid Lipstick in I Stand

This next lipstick product comes from L'Oreal Paris and is part of their Rouge Signature Liquid Lipstick line. As you can see, this shade is significantly darker than the Burt's Bees one. This is a shade that would absolutely be suited to a night out or a special dinner date. I adore that warm brown, almost 90s inspired, colour. Unlike the formula of the last lippie, this is ultra comfortable to wear. It doesn't feel dry, sticky, or like you're even wearing anything at all. Even after it dries completely, it still feels totally comfortable. I am seriously obsessed with this formula. It is fabulous!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina

Obsessed. I am seriously obsessed, addicted, and in love with this lipstick. The Silta Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick is an absolute beauty lovers dream. This is a stunning dusty rose colour that is ridiculously flattering. Better than that? The formula is truly incredible. It is smooth, creamy, and has intense pigmentation. It dries down completely but doesn't become drying or irritating whatsoever. As someone who always has a chapstick in my pocket...I don't need to reach for it at all when I wear this liquid lipstick. I am so impressed.

Maybelline New York Super Stay Matte Ink in Originator

I've got to be honest: I hate this. I hate everything about this. The Maybelline Matte Ink in Originator is downright terrible. At least in my experience. The pigmentation is lacking and no matter how many coats of the lipstick I applied, there were areas that looked patchy and uneven. The formula itself is insanely drying and feels quite heavy and uncomfortable. I've tried another Matte Ink in the past and felt the same way but everyone just keeps raving about the formula, so it might just be me. If you are someone with drier lips (or someone who likes a nice even lipstick look), I wouldn't recommend. While this might have staying power...if the product doesn't apply well...staying power counts for very little.

Overall, these new lip products were a bit of a mixed bag. One was sticky, one was beautiful, one totally knocked my socks off, and one was absolutely atrocious. New makeup is always a gamble, that's for sure! I'm just excited to keep using the two lipsticks that worked for me.

Have you tried any of these lipsticks? What did you think of them?
