tribute: mary-kate and ashley magazine
In 2001, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen started mary-kate and ashley magazine. It was released bi-monthly and lasted three issues. Some may scoff and say the venture was a failure, but this magazine had a huge impact on my life.Whether it was my desperate hope that I may one day look like Mary-Kate or Ashley, this magazine began my interest in fashion. I devoured each page and picture, wondering if I could ever be that girl.
Beyond fashion, this magazine made me start thinking about the world around me. It inspired me to want to do something important with my life. I was a young girl when this magazine launched, but locked away in my bedroom in the midst of puberty, this magazine was my voice. It empowered me. For every article there was about fashion, Mary-Kate and Ashley, or the latest music, there were articles about the first female president, the importance of volunteering, women with cool career paths, school shootings, and the impacts of the media.
I have kept each issue of this magazine in pristine condition. Though I am notorious for ripping pages out of magazines, I kept these intact. It was like I knew how much this magazine would inspire me, even all these years later.
Maybe mary-kate and ashley magazine didn't make it in the long haul, but is a part of my adolescence. For that, I will always be grateful.
This post is dedicated to the pages that inspired me, gave me comfort, and taught me about myself. mary-kate and ashley magazine did more in three issues than most magazines ever do.

I think it's so great when magazines or certain articles inspire people. I still remember my first ever Vogue I bought and one of the articles that I still love (it's in storage somewhere). I'm sure your articles help inspire people this much as well xx
ReplyDeleteThat's a great post.

Got to try something at least hey? Now they can confidently say - 'We tried it, and it didn't work at that time', and move on to whatever else they have in the pipeline. And it made an impact on you right?
ReplyDeleteI can see though how there would have been a quiet wish to look like them!!

I still love the Olsen twins. I mean, they're kind of weird as people, but they are fantastic designers.

I didn't know they had magazine. My go to magazine when I was younger was YM magazine but it stopped publishing as well.
