review: too faced pretty mess eyeshadow palette

Spoiler alert: the Pretty Mess eyeshadow palette from Too Faced has become one of my all-time favourite palettes. And that is saying something! This is the ultimate glamorous nude palette and it really has it all. Cute packaging? Check. Bold and easy to wear colours? Check. The best dark brown eyeshadow ever? Check! Truly....this palette is a love of mine. It was something that I stumbled across several months back on a rare outing. Since then, I have been putting it to good use, and falling more and more in love with the incredible shadows inside. Ready to take a look inside? Find out why this palette stands out from the rest? Here is everything you need to know about the Too Faced Pretty Mess eyeshadow palette.

First thing is first. You may notice the signature underneath the Pretty Mess palette logo. It says Erika Jayne, who you may know from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or from her more recent legal battles. As for me? I've been a fan of various housewives franchises for many years now. The limited edition Too Faced Pretty Mess palette inspired by Erika Jayne (there are even pictures of Erika inside the How-To Glamour Guide) was released in 2019. At the time, my mom and I really wanted the palette, since we were fans of Erika, but could not manage to find it at our local Sephora. So when we saw the palettes at Winners a few months back? It was very exciting. I'm not sure whether the palettes were there because they were limited edition or because of the aforementioned legal battles, but it was exciting nonetheless.

The packaging is simple but certainly makes a statement. It has raised lettering on the top and a disco ball inspired look. Everything about it says fun! On the inside, there is a nice sized mirror with the Too Faced logo on the top and the Erika Jayne signature on the bottom. The Pretty Mess palette also came with a glamour guide, which includes two different look ideas. Personally, I love that Too Faced includes these guides because it makes each palette a little more beginner friendly, but it also can inspire some of your own creations. They are definitely a good starting point whenever you have a new palette to test.

The inside of the palette is absolutely gorgeous. Now, some people do not like when eyeshadows are placed in this kind of uneven format. It doesn't bother me personally, but it all comes down to preference. What I really care about is the colour story and the quality of the eyeshadows themselves. As for the shade selection...it is excellent. This palette has a really nice combination of shimmers, mattes, and glitter finishes to choose from. That adds lots of versatility. Plus, there are beautiful brown shadows (both warm and cool toned) as well as a soft pink, cream colour, metallic shades, and burgundy colours. There are light, medium, and deep tones to choose from as well. All in all, the Pretty Mess palette is extremely versatile and has everything you need to create a wide array of makeup looks. Whether you want something simple for daytime or bold and over the top for a night out, there are many options to choose from. I am so impressed with the thoughtful choices.

As for the quality? The Pretty Mess palette has that covered as well. There are so many standout shadows. Some of my personal favourites are Private Jet Setter (the best dark brown shadow in my collection), Sextravagant (a bright golden shimmer), Clothes Off (a stunning cream colour), and Whatever, Who Cares? (an incredibly pigmented burgundy shimmer). There is not a weak shade in the bunch. Each one has a distinct purpose and can be used to create some makeup looks that are truly spectacular. There are so many nude eyeshadow palettes out there, but this covers all the bases. It has those nude and neutral colours but also has lots of glamourous add-ons that are guaranteed to elevate any and all makeup looks. Truly, the Pretty Mess eyeshadow palette is a favourite. I would easily add it to my top ten list of eyeshadow palettes. It really is that great. So, if you happen to see it at Winners or a similar discount store, it is well worth adding to your collection.

The look above was created using this standout eyeshadow palette. It is glamourous and downright fabulous! I really loved the end result. Find out how this look was created in my latest YouTube video: Simple Glam Makeup feat. Too Faced. It includes a tutorial as well as a mini review of the Too Faced Pretty Mess eyeshadow palette....

There is nothing that I would change about the Too Faced Pretty Mess eyeshadow palette. (What a rare statement!) This has quickly become a favourite and a standout in my collection. The quality is impressive and the shade selection is top notch. It is versatile, glamorous, and has been a welcome addition to my beauty routine.

Have you tried the Pretty Mess eyeshadow palette? What did you think of it?

  4. Girl...as I said in the YT comment, you look so fab in this look, and I will totally look for this palette next time I go to Winners, although honestly, for some reason, I've never been that lucky when it comes to buying makeup at Winners. I did see some Laura Mercier stuff there that I wanted to get, but didn't....boo:( Anyhoo, hope you're having a great Monday so far:) XOXO
