snag salon perfect nails at home.

Get ready to pamper yourself. How? With gorgeous nails that turn heads. It is amazing how a little self-care can improve your mood and increase productivity. Unfortunately, many of us do not have the time or money to spend on a professional manicure and pedicure. That is totally okay! Just re-create the experience at home. It is easier than you think. From an inviting atmosphere to picture perfect nails, you can snag the salon look from the comfort of your own home. Here is everything you need to know to make it happen.

Make Sure You Set The Scene. Why do people go and get their nails done? It isn’t just for pretty polishes. Much of it has to do with the overall experience. People want to enjoy the overall experience, so make sure you get relaxation and downtime. To create this atmosphere in your own space, simply light a few scented candles (think vanilla or something with a light citrus scent), put on tranquil music (like a spa playlist or a mellow artist like John Mayer), and set up your pampering area with lots of pillows, blankets, and other comfortable pieces. You can even pour yourself a cold beverage of fruit infused water or a tall glass of lemonade. These small details are guaranteed to elevate your at home salon day.

Start With Clean Nails. Before you start pouring over all of the pretty nail polish colours…take a look at your nails. Start by removing any leftover polish, clip and file your nails, and buff the surface. You may also want to carefully push back the cuticles. If you do not feel comfortable doing this at home, skip it. It is simply an optional step. After you have finished prepping the nails, wash your hands with antibacterial soap. This will remove product build-up and any small particles that could prevent your nail polish from adhering completely.

Painting Your Nails: What You Need To Know. Now for the fun stuff! Apply a base coat to your nails, like 100% pure horsetail base coat polish. This keeps your polish lasting longer and will prevent staining. Let it dry and then apply your chosen nail polish colour. Paint one strip of colour in the centre of the nail then one on either side to eliminate any obvious brush marks. Wait two to three minutes and apply a second coat. Do this on both hands (or feet) and then apply the topcoat to lock in colour and give your nails extra shine. For best results, choose a topcoat that has strengthening properties. This will prevent your nails from breaking or becoming brittle. A tip to remember? If you spot a mistake, wait until your nails are completely dry. Then dip a cotton swab in nail polish remover to tackle any issues.

Finish It All Off With a Little Extra Pampering. Your nails are dry and totally gorgeous. What next? Don’t let your salon experience end just yet. This is a prime opportunity to really treat yourself. Grab a luxurious lotion from your collection (you can also pick up a sample from a beauty counter or department store beforehand) and apply it all over your hands and feet. Give the lotion a minute or two to sink in. While you wait for it to dry, breathe deeply, listen to that relaxing music, and just pause. After all….this experience is all about you

Adorei as dicas. Mas como eu sou muito ruim fazendo as unhas acabo optando sempre por fazer no salão mesmo!

    Ótima sexta!

  5. Thanks for these tips, Shannon:) I'm gonna admit...I neglect my nails and I think the last time I had them done professionally was in 2002:D I do get into these nail kicks sometimes when I would just go crazy and change my polish once a week, but I haven't done that lately. Now that summer is here, methinks it's really time to get back into it:)
    Have a lovely weekend!

    1. Oh wow, that was a very long time ago! I don't tend to go get my nails professionally done (every now and then) because I prefer to do them myself! Summer is the perfect time to have fun and play around with colour :)

  11. Sounds wonderful, but unfortunately not really possible in the life phase of a toddler mom :) However, I know that one day again moments like that will be possible again so I'm not complaining! Thank you for your kind comment on my blog!
